Going to go with Excelsior...

Published

Ok, I am 90% sure I"m going to go with Excelsior.. I have been doing all this reading to not pay for the enrollment fee until I have to. I know there are program changes coming Oct. 1st. Does anyone know if I'd have to enroll with them by then ?

Also, how does it work if I start by taking Nursing Concepts 1? Just download the study guide and get some reference books? Register for the exam before paying the enrollment fee?

SOrry, I have reviewed so much information I think I have confused the heck out of myself.

Thanks,

Erin

You would have to contact individual schools to find out if they accept Excelsior nursing tests. There are two kinds of nursing tests that they offer. Generic tests, which would more than likely be those which are transferrable and the Nursing Concepts tests, which are specific to the Excelsior nursing program. You can not take all of the nursing concepts tests unless you are enrolled in their nursing program, so this is not a feasible option anyway. Only the first two are available to nonenrolled students. Don't waste your money taking any of these tests until you know that they will be accepted by whatever program that you are considering.

Congratulations on your decision to go with Excelsior. The reason you want to enroll before the new curriculum goes into effect on Oct. 1, is very crucial to you. The biggest change is an added clinical component that is a lot more involved with a head to toe assessment and some exercise in team leading. Just another clinical portion which will cost more money, another trip, and an increased anxiety level. The written test changes are secondary. At any rate, the rules that are in effect now are more palatable, money wise, anxiety wise, and overall coping wise. Since they have given a very long heads up time frame for this info, there is no reason for anyone currently contemplating enrolling to miss the deadline and get themselves in for more than they need to. JMHO. Also, don't worry about them going over the courses that end in August. Just have the transcripts submitted as soon as possible. The last several times that I've submitted material, they have sent evaluations back to me within about three weeks. Everytime you finish another requirement, make certain that you submit a new transcript or test result and they will do an updated eval and send it to you in a timely manner.
