GMU Accelerated BSN Fall 2019

Published

Hello Everyone,

I didn't see any threads for the GMU's ABSN 2019 cohort and wanted to start one. Please feel free to share your experience, journey, stats, issues, questions, and hopefully acceptance.

The GMU's website now says the BSN application is finally open, but I'm still unable to create an account to start my application. They have been experiencing some technical difficulties with their website. Very frustrating, but I'm both hopeful and excited about applying.

Best of luck to everyone applying.

Hi Everybody,

I stumbled upon this thread the other day when searching online for when decisions were sent out. I got a 92.8 cumulative score on the HESI. I did not apply for transfer admission until after I submitted the ABSN application (the application window is so short!), so I have not received decisions on either aspect. Is anybody a GMU alumnus like me?

@Wnt2bNrs I happened to check my ABSN application status and I also have two “Under Review” steps (9-10) for a total of 13 steps. Mine is on Step 10 - In Progress. Did you apply for the ABSN program previously? I am a previous applicant. I was completing the last few prerequisites during Spring 2018, but I don’t know why I wasn’t accepted.

I don’t know of any scholarships/grants for ABSN students, but I filled out the FAFSA form last October and put down GMU as one of the schools.

Best of luck to everybody! This waiting game is really testing my patience!

@NEC2014 That makes me feel a little bit better as you are the only other person who has the additional step. I did not apply to the ABSN program previously. The only thing I can think of is that I did apply to the university back in 2011 for my previous undergraduate degree and I was accepted, but I decided to go to a different university instead. How was the quality of your application previously?

I’m hoping they will let us know by the end of this week at least but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the end of next week. They did extend the deadline for the application by 5 days or so. That must be what pushed the decisions back. All we can do is wait...

If you go to this link: https://nursing.gmu.edu/admissions/bsn-admissions/accelerated-second-degree-bsn-admissions it states that decisions will not be sent out until the END of April so it could still be another 3 to 4 weeks unfortunately.

@Wnt2bNrs Oh, the waiting continues... At least they were courteous in posting something resembling a timeframe for decisions to be emailed.

I think my application for this cycle was stronger than my previous application. However, it is mentioned that even if the applicant meets all the requirements, that it won’t guarantee admission into the program. *sigh*

@FutureRNMar83 I forgot about the application extension, but I made sure to get it in before the original deadline.

Hello everyone,

I created a facebook group for all of us who applied. the group's name is "GMU ABSN Fall 2019 Applicants".

Please look it up and join.

Hi, guys!

I just came across this forum today. I’ve also applied to GMU’s ABSN program and I’m eagerly waiting to hear back. I was previously enrolled in a nursing program at another institution, so I’m hoping this will not affect me in any way.

Does anyone know how many applications they normally get?

Nobody knows for sure, but we hear they get 150-200 applications per cycle.

Hi Everybody,

I just checked my ABSN application status and noticed that mine is only showing the first 9 steps, last one as “Under Review” which is complete (selecting Progress from the drop-down menu to display the steps). I previously had 13 steps displayed, where 9-10 were “Under Review” and it was “In Progress” for step 10. On the page immediately after logging in, my status says “Academic Review”. I’m getting a little nervous. Has anybody noticed a change in their application? Anybody receive decision notices? Best of luck to all!
