Hello, everyone!
I am a prospective student for the GMU ABSN program for 2017. I am working on completing my A&P I and II before applying in January. I have already have a BA in Psychology from GMU. My overall GPA was not great due to an undiagnosed chronic illness that left me with many incompletes that I couldn't get done. But my last 50 or so credits were all As and I was on the Dean's List every semester. I don't know if it will help me at all to be an alumna or not. I am an older student (35 yrs old) and I have three little girls. My older two are already in elementary school and my youngest will eligible for Pre-K by the time the program starts if I'm accepted. I'm a little intimidated by the 1 year, intensive program. Anyone else thinking about applying for the same program? Any advice from those who have already started or completed it? Thanks!
I have 3 more prereqs (dev psych, stat, micro) to do this spring, too, and that is probably the weak point of my application as well. At the info session, that is was the admissions person said, but most applicants have an area they would prefer to look a little different. Just do your best with the part that is in your control. That's what I tell myself. I think your music degree will help you stand out. Are you planning to play an instrument in your video to show how you handle stress?
How is everyone actually taping the video? With a phone and a tripod, or a friend/loved one? One more thing to conquer, right?!
Best of luck to you and all. I, too, hope to meet you all in August!
Good luck. The only question I have for you is if you are taking all of those prerequsite next semester? If then, I think you should be fine. Your Nursing GPA is fantastic. What I noticed is that most people that are worried and post on this site are the ones that are actually doing very good. I wish I had a 4.0 nursing GPA or score that high in HESI. Good luck. Hopefully, we'll see each other in August.

You're right! We all have parts we'd like to change. It's best not to dwell on those.
And as for playing my instrument a little on the video... that's a good idea! I will think about that...might have to do my video over LOL.
I used my Mac photobooth app to do it - quality is totally fine. I'm sure a video done with a phone would work great too.
we all have our weaknesses. Hopefully our strengths outshine the weaknesses we have. One question for you, did you also switch major?
I am taking my last 3 pre-reqs this Spring. And I definitely changed my major around a bit these past few years, but I decided I really wanted to finish my music degree before I jumped into another career path! It took me until late in my junior year to realize I wanted to do nursing. How about you? You sound like you're doing a great job as well, don't worry. You have a stellar GPA. Best of luck!
Wow making a video is hard. Saying everything I want to say in no more than three minutes, not stumbling over my words, not fidgeting, or making stupid facial expressions. I'm at the point of just giving up and accepting the "best" 2m:58s video I managed. At least I'm happy with my essay.
I wasn't entirely happy with my video either, but felt I had a strong essay to balance it out. I used imovie for the video to help me split up some of my talking parts so I could really focus on speaking clearly but there were still a few spots where I messed up. Oh well, can't worry about it now. @hope2nurse2017- did you submit your video? Remember that you have to mail out the confirmation email from slideroom with the rest of the Part C before the deadline tomorrow, but since the post offices are closed tomorrow you have to mail it by today
@greatgiginthesky: Thank you for the feedback! Yes, I sent everything out already. It is such a relief to have the application completed. I wanted to edit my video with iMovie as well but I'm not familiar with the program and time was an issue. I wrote a little over a page for my essay. If I tried to stretch it out more it would just be adding fluff. Overall I'm satisfied with my application and think I am a strong candidate. I hope we all get in!
hope2nurse2017, 4 times? mine was like 50 tries. Start and halfway through got tongue tied. Only did one perfect video and in that I forgot to say my G number at the start. Had to go through another bunch of fails until finally got a video that was 2:58 minutes long with my G number at the start. Videos are worse than essays.

Hi everyone,
I'm getting ready to submit my application within the next couple days for Fall 2017. I just have so much anxiety about getting in, I have no idea what to think.
My first degree was in music. Kind of untraditional-- I'm hoping it will help me stand out a little bit. Overall GPA is a 3.86, prereq GPA 4.0 (so far) and HESI was 96.4%. I think my grades/scores are my strong points. I also volunteer at the hospital as of a few months ago and have some other good community service to highlight.
The thing I'm most worried about is the fact that I have yet to take 3 prerequisites: nutrition, developmental psych, and A&P II. I hope that they will let this slide since my other grades are strong.
I've basically finished the essay and tomorrow plan on recording the video. I tried to put a lot of thought into these but man, I am hating this process. Every time I start to work on them my heart starts pounding.
If all goes as planned, I hope to be meeting many of you in August. Good luck to everyone!!
