Hi everyone!
Thought I could start this thread for anyone that is applying to the GCC Nursing Program this spring? I'm just getting my portfolio organized and prepared. I have to take the HESI one more time on Feb 24th and attend an info session on Feb 28th and I'm all set. I'm so nervous! But, I'm going to try to be optimistic. I look forward to hearing from you guys :) Take Care~
I didn't apply for any scholarships because I had no reason to expect to not get the full amount as I had years before. I knew I would have to pay a little out of pocket because of the nursing program's extra 1000 fee per semester ( Does anyone know what that is for anyway?). If I had gotten the full amount, I would only have to pay a couple hundred out of pocket. I have already paid for my books to ensure that I would have enough grant money to cover tuition. I also didn't want to be un necessary competition for scholarships to those who truly had a need for them. Now I wish I had applied. I left a message with the financial aid department to find out what happened. Still waiting for a call back.
On a more positive note, I took and passed my CPR class yesterday at Kennedy. I was the only person in the class who wasn't an RN already and I took the opportunity to soak up the knowledge. The nurses there said that it will not be long before I get my card. They said that they would be surprised if it took two full weeks. Hopefully they are correct. They also suggested that immediately after graduating, the best learning job is in a med surg unit. They said that it gives you the chance to learn about everything and it is basically an extention of nursing school. After a few years of that, you can feel free to specialize if you want. I thought this was interesting because my initial plan was to get a job in the ER so that I could see a variety of patients. The point that they brought up was that in the ER, you only see the exacerbated version of illnesses. Anyway, I just thought I would share! Good luck to everyone!
momtofore, your cpr card came before mine..... i wonder if mine will ever come. I leave on monday........ but i'll be back in nj for a doc appt on the 27th..... hopefully by then I'll be able to get these packets turned in.
I also ordered my lab coat. From bestuniforms catalog, but it hasn't come in yet.
I got my lab coat today. It looks really nice, but I'm just a little concerned about the length of the coat. It is a little shorter than mid thigh. Hopefully it won't be a problem though. I'm crossing my fingers. :)
I still haven't received my cpr certification in the mail yet......which is frustrating..... but I guess I'll have to come back to NJ and hand in the packet before July 21. I think that's the deadline...... right?
momtofore, i got the "wink" labcoat. I tried a small on at the store and it was too big (i wasn't blessed up top lol) .... so I had to order an xs from their catalog. It comes up to about an inch over mid thigh...... I'm wondering if we just need lab coats for the pinning ceremony or if we actually wear them for lab.

Thank nurse2b. I was denied the tuition aid grant unfortunately.... and I only was able to get 300$ for each semester...... in the pell grant....... this is extremely disappointing.....
momtofore, i'm also waiting for the scholarships and cpr card......I wish they would hurry up already! I'm the kind of person who likes to get things done way before hand so this wait is killing me.
