Hi,

This thread is for anyone applying to GCC's nursing program for Winter/Spring 2021. Good luck ?

Every school counts points differently so I would run the numbers to see if it makes sense for the program you want to apply to! I didn't have any volunteer or healthcare experience and I had a repeat in English from 10 years ago and I got in to a program but again those points vary depending on the programs. Some schools only give you 2 points for CNA where other schools give 10. For GCC, they do random selection for everyone who meets the minimum requirements, so you can't really make yourself more competitive which sucks. But it's also good because you don't have to have a 4.0 to get in. Pros and cons. Don't give up!

What school do you go to ? I don’t have any healthcare or volunteer experience. I’m having trouble finding schools to apply to.

Hello guys.

I found this threat and I just received my acceptance letter from GCC, for the weekend evening.

Congratulations @Alma11! I received my rejection letter earlier today. May I know your statistics such as GPA, TEAS exam? Thank you!

I got into COC. They only give 1 pt for experience and 1pt for CNA. 1pt for BA/BS. 0 pts for AA. They heavily weigh GPA and TEAS.

Moorpark gives 10pts for BA/BS. 8pts for AA degree OR LVN/MA/RT etc. 5 pts for CNA. 2.5 for volunteering. I know of 4 previous classmates that got accepted to their program with no previous experience.

PCC is another school to look into that is more focused on GPA and TEAS. They give 30pts for completing non-prereq GEs. Only 2pts for CNA, 5pts for LVN/MA/RT etc.

Every school lists their mutli-criteria selection on their site. Sometimes you just have to search a little to find them.

This was also my second time applying and received a rejection letter but congrats to everyone to got in!

I’m on the same boat. ? How can so many schools say no? Haha

I do have 1 B in physio. COC told me to retake the class at Valley and I’ll have a higher chance, but then Valley told me to not retake it because it can do more harm than good. Don’t know what to do, y’all

Did Valley say why retaking a class would do more harm than good?

I'm sorry to hear. It's a rough road. I had to wait a whole entire year to get in but thats also because I failed the TEAS the first time. I took the TEAS last year through and failed, which was devastating. I passed on taking it again on Fall/Summer because I was feeling very discouraged. I finally got the courage to study again and took the TEAS with them once again about a week ago. I scored a 73.3%, science being my highest score ( 82%), which wasn't so bad. My GPA is a 3.2 overall. I believe 3.5 on pre-reqs. I got an B on Anatomy, B on Physiology, A on Microbiology. I was very shocked and excited to receive my acceptance because I know my stats are not highest. But it goes to show that anybody can get it, just be patient and eventually your turn will come. I'm beyond thankful, but super nervous because I know I'm going to struggle LOL, I don't consider myself the smartest, I always had to work extra hard for my grades and even then it was still difficult.

Good luck to you. What are your stats and where have you applied?

Thank you for sharing your inspirational story. It is actually my 3rd time applying (in LAVC) and first time in Glendale. I have B’s on anatomy and physiology, A on Microbiology. I got 77.3 in TEAS. I hope we’ll get accepted in other school too. In spite of the rejections, I’m still motivated to wait for my turn.??
congratulations!! Wishing for your success in Glendale nursing program ♥️

Hello everyone! I like everyone else got my letter of denial yesterday morning. But I replied to the email asking them to kindly consider my application if anyone turns down their acceptance. God is great because I got an email this morning offering me an open spot! I applied to 7 schools and this was my #1 choice so grateful is an understatement. I truly have faith in ALL of you guys’ nursing journey, and pray it’s jump started very soon??❤️

This is amazing! So happy for you and thanks for sharing. Blessings on your upcoming nursing school experience.

For everyone else in the same boat with facing rejections, don't lose hope. Everything happens for a reason and we will become nurses one day ❤️ YOU GOT THIS!

@Alma11 Hi

Is the TEAS the same when you retake it with Gcc, I’m currently going through remediation at Gcc. Took the TEAS didn’t pass at first attempt. Thank you.
