glendale community college nursing program

Published

hey everyone! i graduated from glendale community college. i'm so glad that i went through nursing school and i love my new career! it's awesome. :yeah:

Some great info here, folks! Thanks!

I'm on the wait list and sometimes it seems like I have NO idea where things are headed. I got a lot out of this thread.

So the nursing program is only 8 credits technically? How does this affect financial aid? I know you have to have 12 credits to be considered full time...

block one is 10 credits. i also take the structured nursing review course for one additional credit. there is also a math review class you can take for another credit i think (it may just be a half credit). a lot of people take those two courses to get to full time. i've only ever gone to school part time, so my financial aid is the same, not sure how much more i would receive if i were full time.

Thanks for the info! My time stamp is 2/20/2009, so I am hoping for Fall 2010. Still debating on whether to go the GCC weekend day option since I work full time M-F, or if I should try to get into SCC because it's the closest for me. Looks like I may be waiting until 2011. The only thing I worry about GCC is getting burnt out fairly quickly working full time and having school on the weekends for 2 years straight?!

you'll find a way to work it out. a lot of people in my block work, and with the weekend program it's doable. the normal program is 4 days a week, so it's a lot harder to work full time.

I have a time stamp oct 2009..Im thinking I should be getting in January 2011..Does that sound about right? Did anyone else have a october time stamp?

not really sure, but I started in January group 2010, we all had time stamps from April, June, August. So my bet is you will get in Fall 2011, they have dropped seats too and they are laying off some teachers.

I had read somewhere on the internet that you have to take the HESI A2 again after the first semester of nursing school. Does anyone know if this is true?? Thanks for the info in advance!

We take a HESI exam every semester, but it is only what was covered during that semester. It is super easy though and doesn't count for much.

Do you know what the purpose is in taking it every semester? I assume just to see what you have retained?

It estimates how well you will do on the NCLEX. It really isn't as much about retention where they teach you facts and see if you can remember those facts, it is critical thinking where you may get a question that can have 4 correct answers but which answer is the "best answer".
