hey everyone! i graduated from glendale community college. i'm so glad that i went through nursing school and i love my new career! it's awesome.
Yes! I am excited to already meet a classmate! I have not received my info pack yet. Did you? I know what you mean, I have 3 kids 9 years through 7 weeks, I am trying to get the family prepared but I'm nervous about the adjustment period. I'm sure it will all work out though - I have been working towards this for so long I just can't wait to get through it all!
I hear you! I was just thinking how many times I have had to stop school, wait, decline my position at ASU to finally get to this point...almost too good to be true! No I have not recieved my packet, I spoke to someone and she said they'd be sending them out as people confirm rather than waiting for all 30 students to respond. So I think we should get them real soon. I am glad to have something in common w/someone. I always imagine that because I have waited so long I would be going to school young highschool graduates, but I think there are a lot people that hve been waiting, going back to school etc. Do you work as well? I dont.
I got my packet today:yeah:, and there was a lot to look through. I know when i was on the waitlist I wanted some more info, so I will post this for anyone curious.
1. They send packet after they have recieved confirmation of you attending.
2. you have 5 days to get 2 pieces of paper back to them, then THEY will enroll you w/in a few weeks.
3. There are optional classes they suggest you take. One is a math class that is only 2 days for 4 hours that meets the week before classes begin. Another class is a study skill class, and another is, well to be honest it seems like another study skill class, so not sure.
4. They also give you an assigned date that is set in stone that you must attend to show all your health documentation.
5. then there is an oreintation from 7am t0 4:30, they provide you lunch and exlpain stuff and you can purchase your books/uniform etc.
6. the required books are bundled to save $. They cost $618:smackingf then there are a few recommneded books as well. I looked online at all the ISBN #s and they are all availabl used online, but you'd have to do some digging. I found that even going used and buying from all seperateplaces it was an additional savings of a little less than $150. (not sure yet if its worth the headache for used books).
They make mention that this prgram is about a 60 hour a week commitment (school, reading, labs, studying, etc). This is what I know so far. Hope it help clarify the process a little more.
I am thinking of the math class and the Nur104ab class. From what I can understand the Nur104ab class is the whole block? And its to help you focus in on what was just taught so you can more efficiently study. I think the CPD115 (college success) is general study skills etc and does not last the block. The NCE214MO (math class) is only 2 days for 4 hours each day. Except for the students doing the weekend class its not the week before class starts as it says but the 2nd week of school, on a mon and wed. What is everyone else going to do? I wonder if the NUR104 class is even helpful the 1st block. I am sure the math will be.
wait doesn't school start the 19th of january or does nursing start a different date than the rest of the school. my sheet says the math is on the 11th and 13th. I was hoping that was before regular school starts. I think I will do the math and the semester long class. They both seem really helpful.
unfortunatly it wouldnt help to know ahead of time, they switch the books w/new editions every run I think, so there is no guarantee that the books I will need will be the books you need. So i can post it if you want but I wouldn't reccomend buying yet until you are in because its a huge cost (even if used) and you dont know if they will use the same ones.

I just was placed in GCC weekend program. I had to use my deferral from fall because I just had a baby as well! At any rate I used my deferral and I only had GCC weekend as my option so of course thats where I was placed again. Is there any one else in the weekend program, maybe we can form a study group early on.
