Has anyone gotten any information back for the 2013 fall cohort for GCC in CA?

So I just got a call from GCC's nursing dept. and offered an alternate seat in the program or potentially a permanent seat if the last few people decline their offers next week. I accepted a seat at Pierce's RN program, but now I'm a little torn...

You should wait, Glendale's program seems really great and their pass rates for the NCLEX are really good too.

I agree! Most alternates get in. I believe all four of ours did.

Hey rebeccles, you're declining your spot at GCC as well...any particular reason why you chose another program?

Like Brewin, I got into PCC which is my first choice, so I accepted the seat there. They're both great programs, though.

Been waiting to hear from GCC, but nothing yet. My application was kept on file from last semester. I have a weird feeling they did not process my application this time around, which would really bum me out. When is the deadline for admitted students to accept admission and attend orientation?

Pretty sure you missed it. Just because they kept your file doesnt mean you dont have to let them know you want to apply again

Thanks for replying SoCalCrystal. When I asked them to keep my file, I also let them know that I wanted to be considered for the Fall 2013 selection process. I got a confirmation e-mail acknowledging my request from the Director back in December when I did not make the GCC lottery. If they in fact did not process my application when I was told they would, can I appeal or file a grievance? Has anyone had a similar experience?

Call and talk to the girl at the front desk.

I called only to find out that they mistakenly shred my file. The person who answered said "Sorry" and to apply for next semester. This is very disheartening and I don't know what to do. I've been compliant with all the requirements and this was an error on their part. I left a message for the person who handles the applications. Should I also try to contact the Chair of the Dept? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you. :(

Oh no, that really sucks. I hope something can be worked out for you for GCCs program. I think you should call the chair or speak to the nursing program specialist and see if your application can be reinstated or at least offer you an alternate seat if you made the cut in the lottery. I'd be pretty bummed too...

Spoke to the nursing program specialist who said there was nothing they could do even though it was a mistake on their part. Told me I would have to apply and submit all my materials again for the next semester. Did not give me any alternatives or tried to resolve this matter. Frankly, I felt like they did not want to help me. I am so sad. I do not know if it's even worth it to speak to the Chair of the Dept. or to just suck it up and reapply next year. This just seems so unfair. Thanks for all your comments.

Honestly.....suck it up and try again next year. I'm sorry to say it but it is your best option. Stay on top of them about your app. Always make sure they have recieved everything and it is being processed. You will be responsible for yourself in nursing school and especially as a nurse. It sucks but it's a habit I would advise picking up now. Learn to CYA!

So what did you decide? Are you going to be an alternate?
