Has anyone gotten any information back for the 2013 fall cohort for GCC in CA?

Thank you...checked my mail today and still nothing from GCC (only thing in my mailbox was a lame newsletter from Trader Joes!)

So I didn't get picked in the lottery for GCC...at least I got into Pierce!

yes, at least you got into pierce! When I went in today to accept my spot they said that only 40 total were accepted which seems pretty slim. I feel very fortunate to have gotten in somewhere. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted somewhere. We're on our way to having a great career!!!

Make the most of wherever you get in! Good luck!

You never know, so very true...your letter might come on Monday. I only had 61 points, which didn't seem super high either.

I received my decline letter and I had 59 points :/ it's ok b/c I got into Rio Hondo anyway but wow I was so close!! Lol.

So I just got a call from GCC's nursing dept. and offered an alternate seat in the program or potentially a permanent seat if the last few people decline their offers next week. I accepted a seat at Pierce's RN program, but now I'm a little torn...

Stick it out, I'm declining my spot tomorow, hopefully others will too. Good luck!

Thank you, can I ask why are you choosing to decline your spot?

I'll also be declining, so my guess is you'll be getting a call.

Wait. I thought we were talking about Citrus for some reason. Lol. I didn't apply to Glendale but good luck to everyone!

Hey rebeccles, you're declining your spot at GCC as well...any particular reason why you chose another program?

Klkoniec-

Got in to pasadena cc, since i work in pasadena and will be moving to Alhambra soon, it will be closer. I really liked gcc though, new science building, the receptionist is awesome and really welcoming compared to other schools I visited. My coworker loves it there at gcc he's a 1st and says the program is tough.

Off topic but is it really true that these programs are hard to get into? Got into 2/2 so far still waiting on lahc but will decline that as well. Not sure if my teas (99th percentile) or because I'm a guy or I'm just really lucky. Either way, I'm excited to start in fall.

What do you like about gcc?

Hi brewin! Well, if TEAS scores were a part of the selection process, I'm sure scoring in the 99th percentile helped! That's terrific you were accepted into 2/2 schools so far! I applied to 8 RN programs, I was accepted into 2 so far, and selected as an alternate by 2 others, and not picked by another 3 and still waiting to hear from one more. Knowing how many people apply and how schools can basically have their pick if they wanted to, definitely had my anxiety roaring as to whether I applied to enough schools to increase my odds of acceptance and I was thrilled that I too got accepted my first time applying to schools. With lottery systems, like GCC, I know they have a chancellor's formula that you have to "make the cut" for to be entered into the lottery system based on pre-req GPA, TEAS score, etc and from there it's luck.

I did like GCCs campus, it is a little difficult to navigate for a first time visitor, but its nice. I like the clinical skills lab they have, the staff seems very friendly and helpful, and there is so much positive feedback about the program and it seems a lot of nursing students really enjoy the experience there. Plus, they have a strong NCLEX pass rate which is important and I think is a good indicator of how well the program prepares students. They do also have a bridge agreement with CSUN for a BSN opportunity and that's a nice option as well.

Congrats again on your acceptance! All the best to you! Pasadena seems to have an excellent program as well and they have a high NCLEX pass rate, sounds like you made a great choice:)
