I am sorry but i need to vent a minute, and my hubby doesnt want to hear it...I have been so frustrated these past few days, i work at a hospital on the weekends, plus i am taking 3 classes this semester and i have a 4 year old and i am feeling overwhelmmed and i feel like crying. I dont know if i should just give up on my dream to be a RN i feel like i will never be able to do it....And no offense to cna's but i dont want to do this forever, i am tired of wiping butts everyday, i know thats not all we do and i will still have to do it as a RN...But i almost feel like giving up and going to like walmart or kohls and getting a job and not having the stress....Is this normal for students with families to feel like this??:crying2:

When I got to that point in nursing school I just got a credit card, got some student loans and pretty much quit working. Now I have been a nurse for four months and I am paying off my credit cards fairly quickly and I am so glad I stopped working. Absolutely do not give up on nursing school, just make it through this and you will have a good stable income for THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. I would tell your husband you do not expect him to pick up the bills, you are getting a loan that you will pay off, and you are quitting your job. That's what I did!

Don't give up, you will make it through this!:)

Yup.

Let yourself cry to release the stress in your body, but don't give up. You didn't say how far into the program you are. But, look at it this way: If you can't do it for yourself right now, do it for your kid. That was my motivation when I thought I just couldn't do it anymore. My daughter got to watch her mother focus on a goal, struggle like mad, and then achieve that goal. That's a huge example to make for your child.

Also, if you work at Walmart, your more likely to HAVE to shop at Walmart as opposed to CHOOSING to shop there...... Get my drift?;)

i have been seriosly thinking about quiting my job, but that is our "play money" and i would hate to lose that...but i feel like the whole going to school for my RN on top of working at the hospital is too much right now and maybe a less stressful job would be better while i am in school??

I totally get your drift and although i like walmart, i want more then that....I am still working on my prereq's so i have a while to go still and thats why i am so upset because i am not even in the program yet and i know that the program is hard...My aunt went back at 40 and got her RN and she has advised me not to work at all but i need the extra money right now, although my hubby tells me i can quit and he will work overtime, so i dont know......

If your hubby says quit then quit. My hubby told me the same thing and my money was our entertainment expenses as well. I don't think I could make it working, going to school and taking care of my household responsabilities. You will never know until you do. If it gets to hard you can always find another job!

candykane you are right i can find another job but i make 19$ an hour at the hospital i work at and i am afraid to lose that money....I know i shouldnt be complaining then because its my fault if i stay there but i am sure everyone can relate to how it can be when money is tight...

Holy Moly!!! $19 an hour as a CNA?????!!!!!!!

Now that I have recovered.....

I f you have the means to quit and not work, then I would do it. The instructirs told us when I started school that nursing school is a full time job in itself. We lost 6 students las semester (didn't pass the class) and 5 out of the 6 were working full time jobs. Not to say that it can't be done, but if you can survive without working, I would. I am a CNA in RN school right now and I work 2 shifts a month. Enough to keep my CNA skills fresh, but not enough to overwhelm- I have time to spend with my kids and plenty of time to study.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

Jacob1,

you can do it. You are a strong, bright woman, with a bit much on her plate. So, you eat a little of it off (by crying, screaming, and hitting a pillow or two:coollook: ) Then you pick yourself off the floor and get going. I am an LVN, working 44 plus hours/week. (I have three jobs, one HH (full), LTC (PRN), and at a hospital (PRN). I have a 9yr old with major heart problems, and a 4yr old with severe allergies and asthma. I am taking my prereq's, pulling 13 hours at the local community, and have not one day off a week. I am a weaklin', so honey, if I can do it you can. I think the only difference, is my husband will hold my hand as I am crying and continue to tell me everything is going to be ok, you have a goal, and I am with you, supporting you 100%.

so Jacob1, just imagine all of us here at allnurses, as you are getting all the negative energy out:angryfire :crying2: :imbar , holding your hand, rubbing your back, and telling you YOU CAN DO IT, YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE, EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OK, KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE GOAL, AND WE ARE HERE WITH YOU, SUPPORTING YOU 100%!!!

BTW, be lucky, as an lvn, I get 11 at the hospital :smackingf , 13 at ltc, and 16/hour at HH. And think this way, in order to get your 19 an hour at wal-mart, how many extra hours would you have to work? (Although w/m does give 10% discount to employees!)

Imagine your 4 year old child (who will be old enough to remember for the rest of his/her life!) watching you walk across the stage for your BSN. It will permanetly imprint in her mind the value of education, and help him/her to understand that he/she can do it also.

You are not alone. :balloons: Texas

You can still "play" and not need money to do it. Your sanity matters more. Something will have to give.

Working at a dept. store is not going to be any less stressful. You'd have to deal with irrate customers, etc. So that's not a good solution.

If you feel like Wal mart or Kohls is less stressful , maybe work there on just the weekends. Personally, I think those places are just as if not more stressful than a nursing home. But, why not try working at night 7p-7 a or 11-7? It is way less work, less people, less stress. Or like the others suggested, get a credit card and some loans and quit working.

Or even shave half the hours off that you're working now? Work one day, or go PRN.
