Foley insertion.. best techniques???
I have been an LPN for 8 years and have worked in Geriatrics the entire time. I have never had a problem with foleys in geriatric women but I am now precepting in the ED in my last semester of ADN and have had problems visualizing the ureatha in younger women. My preceptor has shown me to have them place the bottoms of their feet together and then relax the leg and hip, kinda froggy style. This has really helped in visualizing the ureatha.

Anyone finished with finals?
Our final was yesterday for Nur202. Whew, glad this is over for a few weeks. Over half our class went in to the final failing. Thank goodness I passed with a B. I will really be suprised if they really fail that many people. I think I can concentrate on making Christmas cookies now!

Is it easier?
I feel being a LPN has been a tremendous help in the RN program. The traditional students did not have a pharmacology class. They are learning a few drugs along with the disease process. I feel already being familiar with lots of the drugs and the uses of them has affected my grades as well knowing lab values. I would have to say it has been so much easier for me compared to not having any nursing knowledge.

Roll Call, LPN to RN Students!!!
I am a 33 yo LPN, I have worked in many areas of LTC(charge nurse, staff development, supervisor, and mds coordinator). I resigned when I started back to school. I felt like I need to be getting more pay as most of the positions I held were RN positions as well. I have final exams left for this semester and then one short semester more. It seems as if time has flew by. I know I don't want go back to LTC when I graduate. I loved working LTC and made some wonderful friends, but I need to master all my skills. I have a 10 year old son and I would like to travel nurse one day when he is grown. :wink2:

Age when you had your first child?
I was 22 when I had my son. I learned my lesson. LOL. He is now 10 and has never wanted any sibilings.

transition from hospital to LTC
I had a patient in LTC before that was a DNR but needed some IV Lasix for CHF and I had to beg my RN supervisor to give. He finally gave it after much encouragement and the resident was not having to fighting for air, so I would say it was a comfort measure in her case.

LPN to RN student forum
I also think this would be a good thread. I am LPN that is back in school in the RN program. I think we could offer each other ideas and support.

Need some Ideas
Just recently did this as part of nursing school. Some made posters with pictures of germs. Don't underestimate these children, they were smart. We taught them to cough or sneeze in the bend of their arm instead of their hands. We also found a skit to do off the internet. We also took a bottle of the foam soap and paper towels to show them how to wash their hands and to sing Happy Birthday twice and that was how long they should wash. It was more fun than I thought it would be. We taught a kindergarden class. There is a coloring page with a pledge on it to wash their hands.

should i give up on my dream
If your hubby says quit then quit. My hubby told me the same thing and my money was our entertainment expenses as well. I don't think I could make it working, going to school and taking care of my household responsabilities. You will never know until you do. If it gets to hard you can always find another job!

Does anyone have a walk in my shoes program
We had a job swap at my facility. We posted a sign at the time clock and everyone who wanted to participate signed up either as a host or participant. Everyone was matched up accordingly. This was a LTC. There were swaps such as a CNA as administrator and DON, Nurses worked in housekeeping and the kitchen. It was a great way to see how the other departments worked. Good team building.

Wallace State Hanceville
We had to take a test and I can't remember the name right off hand at this moment. I also had all academics required for the ADN program but decided to do LPN first. I have heard they except everyone then weed out from there. When I went the only academic required for LPN was English 101. Wallace has a beautiful campus. :

Wallace State Hanceville
I looked on ABN and Wallace graduated 183 ADN students and the percentage rate was 74.3%. I graduated in 98 from the LPN program there and I passed Nclex on the first exam. I agree that it depends on the student. I have no problems with test anxiety and some students do. I loved Wallace. I am attending Snead in Boaz for my ADN and it is a new program, it was closer to my home as well as clinicals. At Wallace we did clinicals at Children's in B'ham for peds and Montclair for Critical Care. Lots of good clinicals! Good Luck!

Proper insulin combining?
In my experience at LTC an order must be written to d/c any med, tx or change in plan of care. I have also been trained to aspirate Regular then NPH. Are the PP not enforced and updated at your facility? Sounds like there is a need for a Staff Development Nurse.
