should i give up my dream job search?

Published

Hello everyone, I am new to all nurses and was hoping to get some feedback on my situation...I graduated nursing school in Dec 2009 and got my LVN license this February:D ..i am 21 and find medical aesthetics to be amazing and my dream job is to do botox, dermal fillers, ect. As an LVN in CA I can legally do my dream job:redpinkhe! Since I have graduated school I have personally hand delivered my resume to every plastic surgery center, med spa, family practice (that does med aesthetics) and even dentist office with in 35 miles from where I live. I have handed out over 60 of my resumes... I have not receive one single call back or even email for that matter :sniff:.. so my question is am I being realistic thinking a new grad can get this kind of position.. should I put my dream on the back burner and look for a LTC job???:uhoh3::uhoh3::uhoh3: or should i keep trying..after all its only been 2 and a half months....:hdvwl:

Thank you so much for you time reading this!!

I dont think you should give up on your dream job! HOWEVER, start exploring other options such as LTC just so you can get some type of experience under your belt and have something to fall back on. When you give out your resumes do you call and follow up afterwards? I think that being persistant and assertive can help too. I'm a new grad as well and am having a difficult time finding a job so i empathize w/ ya!

Goodluck!:)

I am a new grad. too. My dream is to work in ER or ICU, but there aren't a place for new grad. LPNs. I am now working in a very busy rehab. center. I must say i am gracful for it and loving my job. This is not what i dream of, but i know this experience is going to count in the future.

I assume that you are in southern CA, which currently offers one of the worst job markets for new grad LVNs in the country. If I were you, I'd be searching for any job instead of focusing on only one specific area or specialty.

Also, be aware that even the LTC/nursing jobs are hard to find in today's economy.

I do think your being unrealistic being as in ca is so hard to even get an LTC job. Don't give up your dream if that is what you really want but it may take a long time to get there.

As an LPN, you know right off the bat that your primary job market is going to be LTC, doctors offices, and home health. Unless you know someone, or you apply internally at a hospital (assuming you were previously a CNA), your chances of landing a "dream" job right out of school are slim to none.

Pay your dues and tackle the monster known as LTC nursing for the first year. You'll get plenty of experience, and have more freedom as a nurse working in long term care. Get that experience, and you'll start getting calls back :)

I'm in the Tampa Bay area of FL. 2 of the girls in my LPN class got their dream jobs, one works in a dermatology office, the other in a med spa.

Personally, I wouldn't work in either...LTC is right up my alley.
