  1. unfortunately, ca is one of the worst places for nurses without tons of experience to find rn positions.. esp in women's health. the good news is that you have some experience and a bsn! try looking for positions that require only 6mos experience. i even saw a post a few months ago requiring only 4 mos experience. sorry about your situation but you are definitely not alone! im from fl and it took me about 6 mos to land a position. don't give up and cosider relocating if you can. i heard that west virginia, texas and new mexico are pretty good about hiring less experienced rns. best of luck and keep us posted! you will find something, its just a matter of time.
  2. i agree with the above poster. you should have someone look at your resume to correct any issues. also, when you apply for a position try calling the nurse manager of that unit to speak with him/her directly about the possibility of an interview (that is how i got my first job after many months searching). i heard that it helps to go directly to the facility you wish to gain employment and personally hand the hiring manager your resume and cover letter. good luck and keep us posted!
  3. Im from FL and I graudated in December 2009. It took me about 5 months to find a job. The job market for new grads in FL is tough but I dont think its as bad as other places like CA. Almost everyone in my graduating class has found a position by now. Its worth looking into! Also, I heard that New Mexico and West Virginia are willing to hire new grads. I applied to a GN position at the university of west virgina hospital and I got a phone call the next day to set up an interview! Good Luck in your search and don't give up. Hope I helped in some way.:)
  4. hello all, i just wanted to update and let you know that i finally landed an rn job! thank you for all of your support, hugs and encouragement. :redpinkhe please don't give up on your search because i know i almost did. thanks again everyone!:)
  5. yes it is very tough to get a new grad position..even here in FL. I graduated in december and have an interview on monday. My advice would be to apply for a position and then call the nurse manager directly to discuss the opportunity for an interview. That is the only way i can get them!..ive only had 2 though! anyhow, good luck and keep us posted!
  6. sorry you are going through this:(. i think that you are definitely right when you say that you would rather have a preceptor to orient and teach you. i think you should apply for a position that will provide you with a good preceptor and an orientation process that will actually prepare you to work by yourself. i wish you a big hug and hope that you give yourself some credit for being as brave as you seem!
  7. congrats!!!!!!!:yeah: now you're just going to have to listen to me whine until i get a job lol!
  8. my vote is for job #3!
  9. I dont think you should give up on your dream job! HOWEVER, start exploring other options such as LTC just so you can get some type of experience under your belt and have something to fall back on. When you give out your resumes do you call and follow up afterwards? I think that being persistant and assertive can help too. I'm a new grad as well and am having a difficult time finding a job so i empathize w/ ya! Goodluck!:)
  10. Sorry to hear about your sister:(,I'll be praying for her. Please keep us posted on her status!
  11. Thank you for sharing your story! very inspirational. Please pray for me:redpinkhe
  12. Yes, I will start volunteering. I heard that it helps to volunteer at hospitals because it gives you a chance to network with other nurses and make connections. Good luck in your job search as well.
  13. Could you take a refresher course? If you still have your text books pop in the CDs and do some quizes and review questions. I graduated in december and I am already losing my "NURSING MIND" lol. Glad to hear you found a job though.:)
  14. so as many of the new grads know, finding a job is difficult without experience. however, i graduated in dec 09 and many of the people i graduated with have found jobs. not just in ltc but at prestigious hospitals and medical centers.the job market is tight where i'm from and there are not tons of positions available for new grads but every few weeks i hear of another friend that has landed a nursing job. i feel like there is something wrong with me because i have only had 2 interviews since i graduated. when a position opens up for an entry level nurse, i apply and call the nurse manager directly to set up an interview. i guess i just need someone to tell me that eventually i will land a job too... i've noticed a lot more posts are being made about new grads that have finally found a job. i even read a post today about a newbie that has two job offers... this excites me because i know that there are jobs out there but it discourages me because i feel like a straggler left behind and still waiting tables for a living. not sure where i'm going with all of this but i just needed to vent. thanks for listening and any advice would be welcomed!:redbeathe
