Okay any help would be appreciated...
I have to write a care plan on the main character in the movie Girl, Interrupted (crazy, right?)
According to the film she was diagnosed with depression and attempted suicide. I am drawing a blank trying to come up with a NANDA approved nursing diagnosis. I thought about using deficient knowledge of causes, signs, symptoms, and treatment r/t depression. But I know that safety should be priority to this diagnosis...I would appreciate any suggestions.
Oh by the way, I'm new..so Hello Everyone!:)

How about risk for violence: self directed r/t depression aeb prior suicidal ideation/attempt?
Thank you, wow you would think that I would have thought of that.

wow.. it's been a while since I've seen the movie, but wasn't the main character very manipulative as well? think of some of the nsg diagnoses that would coincide with borderlines. but I could be wrong.
She was diagnosed w/ borderline personality disorder. Lisa (angelina jolie) was the extremely manipulitive character, Susanna (winona ryder) kinda followed Lisa around, and did what Lisa wanted her to.
You have a pretty good memory!

I am not sure that a dx can be "at risk for" and have "AEB", the "AEB" indicates that the pt is no longer at risk and actually has the dx. How about Risk for Voilence, Self-Directed r/t suicidal behavior. Good luck.
Thank everyone for your help. I am so happy that I found this site, I appreciate all you taking the time to respond (with good suggestions at that!!) to my question

i never saw the movie, but i don't need to. to write a care plan you need to do these things:
the first thing i would do is watch the movie again while sitting with a notebook taking notes about the behavior and symptoms you see the character in this movie display. you have an advantage here because you can look at the movie, or parts of it, again and again to verify things. you don't have that luxury with real patients.
next, i would look up information on the medical conditions of depression and suicide. you want to find any pathophysiology (if possible), signs/symptoms, how it is diagnosed, and how it is treated. why? to see if you missed picking up some of the signs and symptoms in the movie, for one thing. you need the other stuff in developing the related factors and nursing interventions for the rest of your care plan. i guarantee that your instructor already has done all this background work and knows exactly what she is looking to find on the care plans that are going to be handed in.
you can't even get to "coming up with nanda approved nursing diagnoses" until you have done all the above first. that is how critical thinking and the nursing process works.
