Gift ideas for my stepfather, the soon-to-be LPN

Published

Okay everyone, I need to pick your brains for a moment.

My stepfather will soon be graduating from his LPN program. I am incredibly proud of him - it isn't every 54-year-old man who can gut it out through a nursing program, especially after having been out of school for 25 years. I have been researching gift ideas on All Nurses, but most of the threads I've found have included ideas that are aimed more at women (mani/pedi, a spa outing, jewelry, nursing-related figurines, etc.) My mother already called the engraved stethoscope, so that idea is out, and he has a smartphone that basically functions as a PDA. If anyone has any ideas they'd be willing to share, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks! :)

Nice one! How about a small plunger to go with that, then he can have good coffee at work! I keep one in my locker...an absolute necessity, because I can't stomach instant coffee.

What about a really nice pair of trauma shears? Even if he isn't going to be doing trauma, they work to cut just about anything. They have a blunt tip so you can use them to cut off dressings, too. I always carry a pair.

How about a good quality stethescope, maybe engraved with his name.

A gift certificate for scrubs, and maybe some extra nice long white tees to wrap? A really nice pen?

I second this, perhaps a decent pair of hemostats and a Leatherman multi-tool. One can't possibly have too many good quality tools.

A pocket sized drug reference book (Barnes and Noble), nice pens, scissors, hemostats, lab coat.
