I've been an LPN for 2 years now and also work agency with General Healthcare Resources. I want to get my RN but my husband is in school also for his RN so I have little choice but to do it online if I'm going to do it at all. I went to EC's website and created my EC account. Now what do I do ? How do I know what and how many classes/courses I must take to get my degree? Do I have to pay the $75 fee to apply just to find out if I have to take too many courses? I took a lot of prerequisites at local community college for the RN already.
Also, I cannot find out on my state board of nursing (PA) if they even accept EC degrees- do you know if they do?? I don't want to get into anything I cannot get out of (ie: TCN). Thanks
I just heard that Ohio is not going to except excelsior or online degrees after this year. I was still kind of thinking of doing the online degree, but not if this is going to be the case.

I can find no information on the Ohio BON website that would indicate that this is true. I would find it highly unlikely that the OBON would stop ACCepting on line degree sources or stop allowing Excelsior graduates to be licensed in Ohio. As Lunah asked, do you have any documentation to back up your claims?
Just so I have this.... I am graduating from an LPN program in September and will be taking my NCLEX PN in October. Do I need to wait to complete my NCLEX to start with Excelsior? If not does it go like this???
Pay the $75 for my transcript evaluation
Take the tests I can before enrolling to save on cost
Then pay the other fees???
I have called the school a few time but for some reason I keep getting people who really are unable to answer my questions...
I have an associates degree in another field as well as several other classes I am thinking I may not need many of the prerecs...
If you're qualifying for the program based on your LPN licensure, then yes, you need to pass the NCLEX-PN before you can apply. My suggestion is to focus on your NCLEX studies, then do as you've outlined -- transcript eval, test before enrolling, etc. I think you could probably do the two nursing exams that don't require enrollment before you take your NCLEX, but again, I recommend focusing on NCLEX studies to ensure the best outcome there. :) Welcome to allnurses!

So I'm a Paramedic for in the state of Florida and looking to attend The Excelsior college for Nursing .. I have a ton of question about the college its self and the Program. My first of many is Did everyone enjoy this process, second why does it take so long to take the clinical (CPNE). Also to any of you graduates have you had any problems finding work or because you went to an online nursing school do they look differently at you and your skills and knowledge. Thank you so much for any info you have.

I called the OBN last week and they never said they were going to stop accepting Excelsior. The education lady I spoke with gave me all the info I needed. I'm sure if they were going to stop she would have mentioned it?? I had to call because I will be doing this out of country(military wife). So the lady was quite aware I wouldn't be finished before the end of the year.
