Getting Sick at Work

Nurses General Nursing

How many nurses have gotten sick at work and have had to go to the ER? I had a crazy experience last night and ended up in my hospitals ER for TIA-like symptoms. All my tests came back negative thank goodness, plus I am not even in my thirties yet and have no risk factors for a TIA, so the MD isn't really sure what was going on with me. Just wondering if anyone else has been in the middle of their shift and ended up in the ER......

Yup! I had pericarditis last year. horrible, horrible experience. I was 22 at the time and thought I was going to die. For a little while I thought my manager thought I was joking.

I wound up there once with Coronary artery vasospasms. Scared the crap out of me. If a MI is anything like that, oh man, just take me

I was charge in the ER, and became SOB, dizzy and BP out of whack. Thought I thrown another PE after a long car trip the day before (yes I had taken my baby aspirins!). Got stuck in one of my own rooms on a busy night. Used the call bell to tell my relief charge all the things going on that I had been trying to take care of, :lol2:, they all told me to hush and let them take care of it. Turned out to be a bronchospasm with incipient (nasty) bronchitis.

Never in the ER thankfully! I did have one night where I had to leave in the middle of the night because i was having intractable n/ and throwing up every 5 minutes. There have been several times when I have nearly passed out but thankfully

I have been able to run to the closet to sit down.
