Getting ready to apply: CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2013

Published

Good morning!

I am a current LPN working on pre-requisites for application to the CCC-NP for Fall 2013!

I'm taking most of my courses at Holyoke Community College and hope to transfer to Northwestern Connecticut Community College.

So far I have completed:

Nutrition 101- A

English Comp and Lit (6 credit course)- A

Biology w/ Lab- A

Math 085- A

This summer I am taking:

Intro to Psych

Math 095

This fall I am taking:A&P I

Chemistry

Computer Apps

Human Development

During the winter intersession I will take:Sociology

Spring 2013:

A&P II

Statistics

Microbiology

Public Speaking

On my list of things to do:

-Attend Nursing Information Session

-Take TEAS-V

I plan to continue after my ASN to my BSN from Elms College so I'm working on required courses for that program as well.

I look forward to getting to know others who are going through the process! Enjoy the day!

Ha!! Ha!! WannaBnurse23... I think we all feel like that!! I know that's how I'm feeling at this moment!! Lol!! ; )

Probably Thursday or Friday if I was going to guess. NVCC gave me an actual response that she doesn't know. I like the lady at NV. She's been more than accommodating for everything I've asked.

I have talked to the lady at NV too and she is really nice. Is NV your first choice? Hopefully we will meet in the fall!!!! (Meaning we both get in! LOL)

I hope so. I mean if a 3.5 a 98percentile and an a- isn't good enough to get in then the average person applying to this school is insane.

I'm not sure what my GPA will be. If they used math 137, it will be 3.26. It they used math 167, it will be 3.31-(Guidelines are Math 137 or higher...and I got a better grade in the higher one, so who knows!) I got a 87.3 on the TEAS and an A in A&P I....my GPA scares me. I honestly don't know what to expect! I don't think I will get in by rank, but then again you never know. The applicant pool is different every year! I wish I knew exactly how they calculate rank. I tried to figure it out, but don't know if I did it right. Do they take 3.26 x .50(50% of the rank), then 87.3 x .25 and then 4.0 (A in A&P) x .25, and then add all those together?

I posted how I think they do it a few pages back. Most likely out of 100 points. So a 4.0 would be 50 a 100 would be 25 and an a would be worth 25. So the 3.26 would be 40 an 87 would be 22 and an a would be 25 for a total of about 87 of 100 points.

3.5 85 and a- would be 44 + 21 + 23 for 88 points about. That would be my guess at least. But who knows.

I too feel like my gpa will let me down by the way.

Although I was told that my test score was above average and my ap grade was also above average. So who knows.

I know for xray they give you extra points added on to your total combined score of your gpa if you complete other classes needed for the program such as psych 201 or soc 101 or any class that is needed for the program but not apart of the pre reqs like a and p or chem. Does nursing do that too?

Don't think so.

I have never read or heard of them doing that.

Actually. If I can remember they don't give you anything for having any extra classes done. Your ngpa is your ngpa regardless of other course classes you've taken.

is anyone is interested this is what they use to calculate GPA. It's from TRCC Nursing Admissions Advisor. Quality Point System

How to Calculate your Nursing GPA

STEP 1: Plug in the grades for each pre and co-requisite (General Biology is not calculated)

STEP 2: Find the associated Quality Points from the chart above

STEP 3 Add your total credits

STEP 4: Add your total Quality Points

STEP 5: Divide the Total Number of Quality Points by the Total Number of Credits

Nursing GPA includes all of the following pre and co-requisites (General Biology is neither).

Course numbers in Red are pre-requisites; course numbers in Blue are co-requisites. All pre-requisites must be taken prior to the February 1 deadline except A&P II, which can be in progress in the spring semester.

*If a course does not have a grade associated with it (SAT scores, CLM score, CLEP, etc.)

then no grade will be used for that course when calculating the Nursing GPA.
