Hello All-
I have just started looking into applying to Nursing Schools. I have a long way to go but I wanted to get the process started as soon as possible. I am VERY interested in NYU Accelerated Nursing Program for Fall 2010 and I have a few questions. I would love feedback from anyone who was accepted into the program or planning on applying.
1. I graduated undergrad in business with a mere 2.8 GPA. If I get A's in all my prerequisites what are my chances of getting into NYU Accelerated Program? (My first year of college before I transferred I had a 3.3 GPA- don't know if this even makes a difference). What else can I do to increase my chances of getting accepted?
2. Is it more advantageous to apply for spring semester over fall semester?
3. I am very interested in later utilizing my Business degree/background with Nursing. What are my options?
4. I received a C in Statistic from undergrad- should I just retake the course?
Hope to hear from you guys soon.
Thanks!
Hi, I'm submitting my app on Friday the 26th. Am I right that the whole 15-month program will cost around 70K? is that including or excluding housing??
Curious. I wrote a haiku. Now a haiku is only three lines right? Do you think that's good enough? Or should I write two or three haikus about me. This is re short essay part of App.
If I get in I'll definitely blog about my experience b/c I am looking for people already in the program and how they like it???
Let's keep the thread going. March 1st is the priority deadline with decisions rolling in 3-4 wks later. Maybe around mid-April some will already know if they got in or not.
Hey, I think they only give u space for a small Haiku anyway. I went to info sessions a year without housing is like 40,000, house is about 17,000 so we would go for a year and a half-so you are about right-unless u r dorming. o am not i am from NJ. where r you from. What did you write for your essay? I am so confused about how to write one!
I see you posted this yesterday. You do know the application is due March 1st, right? Meaning you have 3 days to write all of the essays and have it post-marked and sent out, so I'd suggest you hurry! Keep in mind the essays are really important for NYU...but then again good grades can overcome anything, probably. Anyway good luck and HURRY!

Not sure if you guys were talking about the 15 month accelerated program, which is the one I applied to. But yes, the due date for this program is March 1st. This is an exact quote I pulled from the college of nursing's undergrad admissions forum:
"Fall Matriculation: To start the 15-month accelerated program in September, the application deadline is March 1st; we will being to notify applicants of our admission decisions in early May.
Spring Matriculation: To start the 15-month accelerated program in January, the priority application deadline is October 1st but we will continue to accept applications until November 1st; we will begin to notify applicants of our admission decisions in mid November, and then on a rolling basis until early January."
Good luck!
Although this is what it says on the main section of the NYU nursing site:
"
Application Deadlines
September Admission (Fall) November 1 - Early Decision for Freshmen Applicants
January 1 - Regular Decision for Freshmen Applicants
March 1 – Priority application deadline for the 15-Month Accelerated Program
Admission to the 15-Month Accelerated Program is competitive and applicants are encouraged to apply by the March 1 deadline. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will continue to accept applications until April 1, however priority consideration will be given to those that apply by March 1.
April 1 - All Transfer Applicants"
Got clarification from the Coordinator at the College of Nursing.
The priority deadline is March 1st, which means your application will be in the 1st round of review and the admissions committee will give you an admissions decision more quickly (quick turnaround). The final app deadline is April 1st and no applications will be accepted after April 1st.
So, it's to the applicants benefit that they meed the March 1st deadline so they can receive an admission decision sooner and better plan for fall 2010.

Hey Aly1981. You're in luck, because I just had that question answered by our official contact person for the accelerated program. (We can't post names on this board, so I'm omitting her name for that reason.) Anyway, she reassured me that many applicants are in the same boat (currently enrolled in the required pre-reqs) and that admissions often grants "conditional admission contingent upon satisfactory completion of ____________." (fill in the blank with the required pre-req) Sometimes they will obtain mid term grades before making admission decisions, but not always. As far as if you should've waited........based on the conversation I had, I have no reason to believe there is ANY benefit in waiting and there IS DEFINITELY NO BENEFIT in playing the "would've, should've, could've game." Breathe easy.....I'm sure your fine!
