Hi everyone. I know there have been quite a few new posters in the last while. I though it would be great to have a little introduction thread. Give us all a chance to say a little about ourselves and what has brought us to nursing. Well I am 37 years on the earth. I have to lovely daughters who are 12 and 9. I am married for a second time to a wonderful man for our 4 year this past August 15th. I decided to persue nursing more than three years ago. I wanted to do it for years but it took a long time to get the nerve up. I have been going to school on and off for a couple of years. I took some of my highschool classes over again and I also had to take my GED as I quit school as a know it all teenager. I love school now and feel the time is right for me. I am so excited about starting on September 3. I am going for my Associates degree in Nursing. Good luck to everyone this year. May we all be successful. I know once school starts that my online time will be limited but I will try to keep up as best as I can.

Take care everyone!:)

Welcome to everyone that I missed !!

I hope everyone has a great semester !! :nurse:

I have to say with all the internet sites I've been too this is the best!!! The support is so overwhelming. Nursing in general is stressful but knowing that there is a support system like this makes it a little easier. Makes me happy to know I picked a field that has so many people that want to be there to help you succeed.

My name is Amy. I'm from Maryland. I'm in my first year of clinicals. I have 3 beautiful, and very full of energy, girls - 9, 7, 5. I have a great husband that supports me with anything I want to do. I recently quit my job so I could concentrate on school & family. I tried the Nursing program about 7 years ago and was working full-time but it was too hard. I'm so happy that I finally get a chance to get back to what I've been dreaming about doing.

Good luck everyone!!!!!!

Specializes in LTC, ER, ICU,.

hi, amy! welcome and all the best to you!

Specializes in Practice Nursing, Postnatal Nursing.

Hi,

My name is Alison (or Ali for short), I'm 34, single with three children ages 15, 12 and 8. 2 girls and then a boy.

I trained as an Enrolled Nurse before the children, (a 1 year programme), and then didn't work again till nearly a year ago.

I'm in the last semester of my 2nd year of the Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing) degree programme, full-time at a polytechnic.

I work part-time as an EN at my local hospital which is only a 30 bed general ward, but I love it and find it has helped to cement the study by working there.

Quite a bit of our clinical experience has to be done at the larger hospital which is a 2 1/2 hour drive away, as our local can't support a class of 30!!

My (74 yr old) Dad helps out when I go away for my 5 week blocks 4 times a year.

Well, thats me, oh yeah, I live in New Zealand, where its already tomorrow!! lol

Hey Everyone,

I'm Chris, 33 yrs old, and a father of two great kids - 3 and 3 months. I've been married for 8 years. I'm currenly working full time as a computer programmer and am taking my nursing prereqs part time at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. My interests at this point are in either ER or ICU nursing. I originally graduated in 1990 with a BS in Computer Science. I was born and raised in St. Paul, MN , left for 4 years of college in California, then moved to the South after graduation. My parents are still trying to get me to move back to MN but I've gotten acclimated to a temperate climate.

Hi everyone!!!

My name is Karen, and i am from maryland. Iam 23 y/o, Married 1 month, no kids (yet!!). I just started my nursing program last week-- so far, so good. I was extremely overwhelmed at first, but now i have settled into a comfortable place with all of it. I am currently working as an orthodontic assistant (braces) full-time, so needless to say my life is pretty hectic. All i can do now is study hard and look foward to the day that i can work as a nurse which is something i have wanted to do since i was a little kid.

Good luck to all, see you around the forum

Howdy all

Just thought I would add something to this thread since I usually have something to say. My name is Kim, I am 25 with a 4 year old daughter and a 1 year old son. I am also married. I am on year number 3 as a nursing student. I am now in my RN year Took me two years to do my first year because I decided to drop out midyear to give birth and take care of my children. Going back the following year was very hard, as in getting back into the swing of things and making friends. I am fascinated by the book end of nursing and really enjoy my theory classes, and it took me longer to truly enjoy the clinicals. Now, I love them. I love being busy and constantly on my feet. I want to be an OB/L&D nurse. I have sort of been making contacts at the local hospital I want to work at and a good nurse friend of mine has been mentioning me from time to time. After I get my RN, I plan to work full time but take classes for my BSN the year following graduation. I eventually want to get my MSN, but that isn't too much of an important goal of mine.

One thing is for sure, though, nursing isn't what I thought it would be when I first started this journey.

Good luck to all.
