getting a job

Published

im a recently licensed RN with a felony charge not conviction from 1996. i have been denied employment from several different hospitals and nursing homes here in El Paso Texas. has anyone experienced these type of obstacles and if so what was the solution. there are only a handful of hospitals here and i fear they will deny me due to my criminal background. what can i do to get a chance to practice nursing. Ive been cleared by the BON, i have a RN license its been years since Ive been in trouble. i hate to think that 4 years of college and thousands of dollars in student loans were a waste. anyone that has helpful info would be greatly appreciated.

I need to know this also

I just have a midemeanor from 10 years ago, and I have only had 3 interviews out of 150+ applications and 8 months of searching. Meanwhile my fellow classmates are going through jobs right and left. I helped a lot of them get through school. Seriously.

I think schools and the various Boards of Nursing aren't being honest with people for financial reasons. I had an attorney tell me flat out I'll never get a job in the health field. I, of course, did not want to hear that; but, he is proving to be a prophet.

Actually, it is not just nursing. Another attorney told me that employers are now looking at misdemeanors the same way they used to look at felonies. I cannot get a job at a convenience store for minimum wage, either in my state of Indiana. Also, expungements are no longer allowed here.

The only way I know of getting hired is to marry the D.O.N. LOL This should be addressed on a National level. My relatives in Germany say it is not like that over there. They call the U.S. a "police state." This kind of stuff really makes one wonder. Essentially, in the current climate, the responsible thing for society to do would be to incarcerate anyone convicted of anything. I am not being funny.

Once one has met the requirements of the court, one's debt to society should be paid in full. To cattle brand a person for life and deny them the right to work is not a mark of a civilized society.
