I am so frustrated with school I am about to scream! :angryfire A little background, I want to apply for the nursing program for this fall. To apply you have to finish all your pre-reqs by June 1st of year you are applying. So my pre-reqs are engl comp, A & P 1, psychology and pharmacology. So I had taken A & P 1 and pharmacology at another school but recently found out the credits didn't transfer! (my original counselor told me they did but the nursing school counselor says no) So now I have to retake these so I am taking them this semester so I can still apply for fall. So to take pharmacology you have to get approval. Registration started the 3rd so I have been calling everyone trying to get approval. Here it is the 10th and they are just now calling me back after countless emails and phone calls. Well I have to go to an information session before I apply. Well the information session is held on the 19, but school starts back up on the 17! So how does that work? And I have to apply before I can get approval! So now I'm confused. I can't apply until pre-reqs are done but I can't take one of the pre-reqs until I apply?! I am frustrated and afraid that this is going to mess me up and I won't get in in the fall because they've messed up my schedule. Anyone else deal with something like this?

I'm not going through this, but I can see how this situation would be so frustrating. I'm sorry that you are going through this and I hope it works out for you. Good luck!

I honestly ALMOST had something like this happen to me. What I did was that on the first day, I went to the class I wanted and after class, I asked the professor to sign me up for the class. If there was space (which there usually was b/c the prof saw that I made the effort to actually get in) the prof would sign me up and all I had to do was mention it to the dean and he/she would let me in. That's how I got in to one of my nursing classes.
Now, in your school it might be a little different, but try that anyway and see what happens. Talk to any advisor you can, and raise as much hell as possible. This your career on the line. You don't want to be delayed just because people in your school were negligent or not cooperative with you. Sorry you're going through this. Good luck.

You might also look into taking a CLEP or some other kind of exam to prove you have proficiency in those subjects.
I had the same situation with credits that would not transfer and not finding out until after the drop/add period. I took the CLEP for English Comp and got 3 hours of credit for $85 and about three hours of my time.

I dont have any advice but I will add my frustrations to your thread. I was planning on this semester(spring 2006) being my last semester of pre-reqs and then applying in May(when the semester ends) to the nursing program so that I can start in the Fall(2006). Well last semester(fall 2005) the nursing program decided to change its application period from May to March and WILL NOT take any in-progress students!!! That means that I have to finish my pre-reqs this semester and wait until SEPTEMBER to apply to the nursing program and then I wont be able to start until the following January(spring 2007). Not only did this add a whole semester on my time line but it also added an entire summer. Basically I will be done a year later then what I had planned. I was so bummed when I found this out I nearly quit school. I feel like sometimes they just dont care what the students needs are, there is so much competition to get into the nursing program that they can change what-ever they want when-ever they want.
Thanks for letting me vent,
frustrated in California

I'm sorry to hear that! That's unfair! But don't quit, because if you do you'll only wish you hadn't. Hang in there; you'll make it through!
Thanks for all the support ladies. I am going to an information session on the 19th and I am going to try to convince someone to let me take this class this semester. Hopefully they can squeeze me in. I'm only one more person and I'm not that big! Amber I am so sorry you are going through this too. I don't know what I will do if I get delayed a whole entire year! I can only apply in fall because I work so I need the evening program so if this messes me up it will put me back 3 entire semesters! I will have everything taken so I don't know what I will do! My life depends on this program, literally! I am making a life changing move after I get my RN and then starting a family, so if this delays me, it delays my move, getting a house with my new husband (getting married in April!) and starting my family, not just delaying my career!

It seems that each school wants different pre-requs. I have been working on mine for 3 years now and have had to transfer 3 times. I have gone through some frustrating things this last semester at school. I have been in the lower division nursing program at a school for a year now. My advisor was changed without notifying me. They changed the class registration process, which I had no clue. You must make an appointment with your advisor to get an access code before the day of registration and they are going in alphabetical order(A-L Monday, M-Z Tuesday). Then if you don't get the classes on your day you must wait until the next week. If a lower division student registers for any nursing classes they are subject to be taken out of the classes a week before classes begin if any upper division students need the classes. By the time I could register there were no classes left for me to take. The tuition there is so high I can't see myself paying for classes that I don't need to take, just to have something to take. So I decided to transfer to a two year college. I would of been in the upper division in the fall. I feel pretty bad about it, but I think it must of happened to me for some reason. I will just have to get my BSN online.

ALL NURSES TO BE :) :)
:) "Welcome to the All Nurses Forums" :)
This last fall I tried to register for pre-requisite classes, and as I was about to fill in the class course numbers the classes would close...all seats taken.
This spring I registered EARLY and I’m in :) :) :) I asked the Dean for help registering for classes.
I was so so so very depressed over not having registered early last spring ‘05.
A returning student :)

Angels, that happened to me also this semester, except I couldn't register any earlier. The second my registration time became available I got online to register and I was able to get on a waiting list for my physio class(yep, the class was already full), and I had no chance of getting into my micro class(the class and waiting lists were full). I have now registered for my Micro class in another TOWN, but hey at least I can take it this semster. I feel like if its not one thing it another.
