I'm a ADN nursing student going into my 3rd semester. I've applied for and got my CNA right before I started my second semester and I still cannot find a job. Most of the job requirements say nursing students need at least 2 semesters of clinical which I now have and still every application comes back saying you have not been selected at this time. Ugh if I can't find one by the end of the summer it's going to be pointless to try because during the semester I can't go through long orientations. I'm only looking for PRN jobs due to my crazy schedule with school and kids but over the summer my schedule is pretty open to whatever needs to be done. It's getting so frustrating and bringing me down.
Gotcha! That does seem like a frustrating situation. It's nice your friend helped with your résumé, sometimes that can be the game changer. Good luck with everything.
Sounds like you're on a good track
Yep, now just have to pick a good time to follow up on these "under review" applications....I put one in on the 7th that I really need to call about but since I put one in for the same company (different position) just yesterday I don't want to pester! Debating if I should wait a week and call about both or just call tmr about the older one and in a week or two about the newer one....
I would also like to say to not just rely on these online apps and sit and wait by your emails or your phone to get a response. If it is a facility that you are applying to maybe go there in person, or call them and ask when there might be a time you could talk to someone about the job openings in the facilities. Some facilities now just don't want to talk to everyone, but eventually they would have to have a face to face interview and if you take a little time to contact them maybe you will be one of the lucky ones to get an interview. Hospital jobs have always been very frustrating to wait and see if you get an interview. There are so many that apply for a single job sometimes it feels like the odds of you getting that job is close to winning the lottery. Is there anyone that works at the hospitals that you know that can put in a word for you. That helps in many ways because you have to know that the interviewers have so many apps they have to go through and see who they want. There are probably 200 apps with the same qualifications you have and they only want to interview 10 people. By having someone mention your name your app might be looked at more closely. I just wish you luck and pray your turn comes very soon wheather it is a hospital, facility, home care. hopfully your turn is now.
I just got an email for a job interview on Wednesday! It's in a hospital for PRN floating staff. I'm super excited, and super nervous! I haven't had a formal interview since my son was a baby (he's almost 12!) the last job I had was for my dads company so obviously no interview there. Wish me luck!
So I didn't even get an interview lol! They filled the position internally just yesterday, but she brought me in anyway to see of I was interested in a full time position. Unfortunately I won't be able to take that. But I did mention another application I put in and she said she's going to call that recruiter personally and ask her to put my resume at the top of the list. Fingers crossed
I have put in about 12-13 of them so far. Only PRN ones though bc I'm still in school and just don't have the time for school, full time work, and kids. There's are only so many prn jobs even listed right now :-/ oh well hope the other one works out. Once I graduate nursing school I'm sure it's going to take a good amount of effort to get a job, unless it get into a place now and hopefully have them hire me as an RN
Finally got another hospital to call me back. Had the phone interview and I'm assuming it didn't go awful because they asked me to come in for a face to face (but I'm sure this is protocol unless you totally choke on the phone, idk never had a phone interview before). Today is my face to face interview and I hope and pray I get the job. This hospital would make me a level 3 PCT since I'm a nursing student, and they would train me in foley's, blood draws, and IV's (which according to them a non nursing student CNA wouldn't get that right away) I'm scared to get too excited until I see how this interview goes. Wish me luck!
