how to get into nursing school ufv

Published

Hi I am currently trying to get into the BSN program at UFV and was wondering if anyone had any advice on what it takes for grades and volunteer experience to get in. I have heard how competitive it is and that you almost have to have straight As!

I was also wondering if anyone had any advice on the interview!:) I am very nervous but excited at the same time.

Hi,

I am currently trying to get in for the september. I don't have straight A's and I have been called for an interview. I can tell you that my GPA is between 3.18 and 3.5 depending on what classes they use for calculating my GPA. Last year, I applied with a 2.67 (B-) GPA and did not even get as far as the interview. This intake there are approximately 135 "complete applicants" for 48 seats. Have you been to an information session?

I cannot give advice at this time about the interview, as I have not had it yet, but I can let you know a little later.

As for volunteering experience, I have heard that over 300 is considered competitive. I currently have 150 hours hospital experience (volunteering emergency) and over 100 hours working with optometric patients, I was told that it qualifies. Feel free to ask me any questions, and if I know the answer I will happily share that information.

PS GOOD LUCK

wow that is a lot of volunteer hours. I only have 50 and just finished my interview an hour ago. I also applied with 50 hours last jan and had the interview too though but was not accepted. The courses that they look at are chem 11 math 11 bio 12 and eng 12 and my gpa is about a 3.3... Good luck to you though! When is your interview?!

my interview is March 25th. They wanted me in earlier, but I work everyday they offered lol. How did you interview go? It is not right to ask specifics, but how did you feel coming out? Was it similar to last intakes interview? I hope you get in, and I will be rooting for you!! and me of course :monkeydance:

As for the GPA, it is slightly complicated.

I redid biology 12 and math 11, so I know they will take that, but I also did chemistry first year university, which has a better grade than high school chemistry. They say they accept it as a pre-requisite but DO they look at it, I am not too sure.

If they look at strictly high school, my GPA is 3.18, if they look at Biology 12, Chem 113/114, Math 11, and english 105, I have a 3.5 GPA. I hope this makes sense for my dilemma lol.

My interview went really well but its hard to say because it did last time as well and the lady even told me that she couldn't say for sure but she saw no reason for me to not get accepted right away and that I should start looking for a pregnant woman to follow... and even after that I got the letter saying I was not accepted so its really hard to say. The interview process is not bad at all though they do make you feel very comfortable and ask pretty basic questions.

I am currently a 3rd Year UFV student. I am in the fast track option. When entering back in Sept 2009.. I did not have straight A's... B average. I had over 100 hours of volunteer work.

My interview went extremely well... but then again, they are all nurses, which means they are easy to talk to ;)

Let me know if you have any questions though :)

have you gotten your letter yet?

not yet, the wait is hard!!! I expected it today though, but nothing. Maybe, tomorrow

i got mine today! hopefully yours came!
