hi,

actually i submitted my application to college of nurses and i also send the form which is directed to my college of nurses in Germany. They sent the form directly to college of nurses here in ontario. As I finished the college so we got a certificate and i am wondering if its similar to diploma or not?I have almost two years of work experience in Germany, mostly in ICU,emergency room and i have also a great reference letter from my work place but its in German.Should i sent this reference letter to college of nurses or no?Do the college translate this letter in english or i should send it translated?please let me know.thanks

You would be better getting it translated by a recognised body as I doubt the college will get it translated.

Check with the College. There is often a list of "approved" services for translation services.

Any documentation in a language other than English or French must be translated. https://ozone.scholarsportal.info/bitstream/1873/13488/1/283948.pdf

I don't think you need to worry about the reference letter at this point, you can wait until you have had your education assessed. If and when you require proof of recent safe practice, the letter (translated into English), must be sent directly from your German employer to the CNO. http://www.cno.org/Global/new/notices/2010FairRegistrationPracticesReport.pdf?epslanguage=en

In regards to your question about your education, how long was your nursing education program? and did you apply to the CNO to be assessed as a Registered Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse?

hi,

my nursing program was three years which is normal in Germany and I used to work as a registered nurse in Germany. This is the title that i got after getting graduated.I have also almost two years of experience in emergency room and ICU.

What i wanted to know is if i have to do the Celban test right now or should i wait until the college asks me to do it!just give me some tips about this procedure.thanks

The college will not process your application if it is not complete and if you are required to do English exam then that needs to be submitted before the college asks you to do it. They usually list which countries are exempt from the English exam

I see you are applying for the registered nurse category, I don't know if you are aware but CNO will be assessing your education to see if it is equivalent to a 4 year baccalaureate nursing program. If your education is not equivalent, they may suggest either academic upgrading or applying to the registered practical nurse catagory.

Regarding whether or not you should do the English fluency test, you can do it when you are ready, just keep in mind the results are good for two years.

That is not correct, CNO processes the applicant's education first, no point in waiting for all the requirements to be processed if the education is not adequate.

Interesting to know as the site doesn't indicate that education is assessed first. Nova Scotia requests the English exam as part of the requirements before eligibility is given

Yes, I believe CNO's registration practice is in compliance with legislation that was passed by the federal and provincial governments, Bill 124, the Fair Access to Regulated Professions Act. The purpose of the Act is to ensure that registration practices are transparent, objective, impartial and fair. The CNO's registration practices are overseen by the Office of Fairness Commisioner (OFC) and they make changes to their registration practices based on the OFCs recommendations. The OFC's reports are on the CNO's webiste. Does Nova Scotia have an Office of Fairness Commisioner to oversee CRNNS registration practices?
