I have worked in several different SNF's and only one has required pre-employment drug testing. The company I work for now has started it but all current employees have been grandfathered in, and not one of the new employees has actually had to pee in a cup. My son worked at Home Depot and had to have a drug screen, but we hire people to take care of our sick, frail elders without one? :uhoh3:  :smokin:

What's the policy where you work?

Home Depot? Thats ridiculous. Never heard of that and I worked at Home depot for 8 months. :)

I kid you not...Home Depot in Massachusetts and the kid had to pass his drug test before he could start working. I wonder if they tested the 72 year old greeters at the front door, or just the 18 year olds working there

:rotfl: ..maybe just the kids who worked in the paint and glue section? Gotta make sure they don't have a taste for huffing the fumes!!!

Here in Canada there's rarely drug testing for any area in the hospitals..so I've been told. Unless of course there is a problem with narc diversion

did you higher your md to take a drug screen before you let them to work on you? i'd think that to be of more importance than my nurse.?

We are just looking at implementing one, and we are behind the times in our area! I have insisted on pursuing it and we are finally getting somewhere. Already had two staff members "confess" and ask for EAP just in anticipation of the program. I think we will lose some people, even though we will start with at hire testing. The staff here now will only be tested for cause.

:uhoh21: I used to be in charge nights at a LTC facility where they did not do pre employment drug screening. Well, several of the night aides smoked, and I did not accompany them outside or check on them when they went on brake. Then a certain aide came back from maternity leave, and several things were happening that I was getting questioned about: long distance phone calls etc. Several times we could not find her throughout the whole facility!!! We have no idea where she went. I reported her several times. Then one morning after my shift that I worked with her, another worker found a joint in one of the ashtrays outside. I was questioned about it, but the DON said she knew who did it. I quit, and the aide still works there, and I've heard there have been similar instances during and after her shift. I for one, am all for the drug testing to keep people like this out of the healthcare profession!

my facility conducts pre employment physicals & drug screens. we also do drug screens if someone is injured on the job & wants to see the md. i find the waste of time is setting up a pre employment physical & they don't show up...or come back full of cocaine because there went 70 bucks to screen

Home depot does test every new hire. That's a fact.

Didn't test me. Thats also a fact. Wierd.
