  1. I work at a private home where LPN's are the primary nurses. There is a particular day nurse who complains about every other nurse who works with us. I'm sure that she also talks aboukt me. This woman doesn't even check on the pt's who are dying!!! She just takes the aides word for it. Report is recorded, and the charge nurse is the only one who listens to it. I often am on meds because I'm fairly new and shes been there 14 yrs. Anyway I asked her about a particular pt, and she practically bit my head off, and answered me like I was an idiot. I explained that I only get report on the days she is off, and I did not know the pts condition. A few minutes later I heard her complaining about it to the DON! She is very snippy with all employees, and is constantly on personal phone calls. But heaven forbid anyone else gets a call, she just gets rude, and talks behind there backs. UHHHH! Just thought I'd vent. :angryfire
  2. :uhoh21: I used to be in charge nights at a LTC facility where they did not do pre employment drug screening. Well, several of the night aides smoked, and I did not accompany them outside or check on them when they went on brake. Then a certain aide came back from maternity leave, and several things were happening that I was getting questioned about: long distance phone calls etc. Several times we could not find her throughout the whole facility!!! We have no idea where she went. I reported her several times. Then one morning after my shift that I worked with her, another worker found a joint in one of the ashtrays outside. I was questioned about it, but the DON said she knew who did it. I quit, and the aide still works there, and I've heard there have been similar instances during and after her shift. I for one, am all for the drug testing to keep people like this out of the healthcare profession!
  3. :) Where I work, everyone wears what they want. Whats the point of having assigned colors, when the patients think that everyone that helps them: aides, nurses, physicial therapists, are nurses. No matter what they're wearing. I'm sorry that you have to go through this.
  4. Well the facility I work at is not run by the state. It is private, and I'm pretty much working at the sisters home. so what they say goes. One is over 200lbs, and is very little assist when moving, the other has MS and also no help. They get frustrated when a lift is used. I just don't want to hurt my baby.
  5. Depends on where the toilet is. This is a small rural nsg home. The toilet was right there, as the med room was too small for two people, and all wasted drugs had to be witnessed by a second party.
  6. I wrote earlier about being 5-6 weeks pregnant. Well, I was wondering if anyone knew if lifting pt's is a big deal while your pregnant. Like I said, I work in a convent, a couple of the nuns are pretty heave, and require a two person lift. Well i noticed that one of the CNA's whom I help when asked, did not ask for my help with these sisters. When I asked her why, she said that she didn't want me to get hurt. Do I have to worry about hurting my baby by helping to transfer someone from w/c to commode?
  7. :balloons: :balloons: I did not know you wern't supposed to flush pills!!! I used to work up the street, and if a pt. died, or the drug was dc'd the pharmacy would not take them back, and we flushed them once every two weeks or so.
  8. I absolutely love my job!!! The only difference, I've been told by RN's, Ia they make more money, and they can hang blood, and push Iv meds. Where I work, they don't hire RN's to work. The DON is a RN, but she is always interested in hearing how we, LPN's feel about med changes, dressings etc. I plan on going back to school one day, but right now is not the right time for me. The only reason I would, is difference in pay.
  9. Thank you for that bit of information! I am just anxious, I guess. And lots of people are saying "you're having twins" They said this last time I was pregnant also because I'm a fraternal twin, and there are several sets on my mothers side of the family. Guess I was just thinking about that. Thank you again!
  10. I had the same thing happen to me when I graduated. i worked in an infusion center, and had several patients ask me if I knew what I was doing, or if this was the first time I stuck someone. It always made me angry. Just because I'm young does not mean that I don't know my job! Just do your best, and they'll never ask you dumb questions again!
  11. I'm a Lpn, and I work at a convent for sick and retired nuns. i am pregnant, and cannot get into the doctor for two more weeks. I was just wondering if there was any way I could guess how far along I am besides LMP. I am definately showing, and according to my calculations, I am only 5-6 weeks pregnant. My LMP was only like two days long, and very light. I did not get a tummy this fast with my daughter. Any suggestions?
