North Georgia College & State University Fall 2011

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hey all! I am currently in the application process for Fall 2011 at North GA College & State. I was wondering if anyone out there can offer me come comfort on the application process and acceptance statistics? I am very impressed with the college so far and will be highly disappointed if I'm not granted acceptance, but I'm going crazy with all of the waiting games (I've applied to several schools).

I'm not hearing negative things in terms of it being in the boonies or anything. Mainly it's the staff, the professors and the way they teach. My A&P professor tells her students not to go there that it's the worst program there is as far as she's concerned. I know that's just her opinion, but to me she is the best professor I've ever had...and I value her opinion. I really would love to go to N GA though, and felt really let down when I heard so many ppl talking bad about it. It would be very convenient for me to go there, and it was # 1 on my list. now, I'm just really confused.

lesuga...I think you may be right "school and education is what you make of it"

Your friend that highly recommended N GA how long ago was she there? Just curious, I'm still wanting to go there so bad...I just get really stressed out hoping I'm doing the right thing.

She went there a while ago, but as far as her opinion on the school... I think it comes from a professional perspective, not a student perspective. When I was talking about the different schools I was going to apply to North Georgia never crossed my mind (I didn't know they had a nursing program). That is when she started talking about the value of the program and such. If you look up the NCLEX pass rate, it's just as high as the other schools in Georgia. I compared it to West Georgia because that was where EVERYONE was telling me to apply (I didn't because it's 2 hours from "home") and it was exactly the same (89%). To give you a general idea - MCG has a 90% pass rate, Kennesaw has a 91% and Mercer has an 88% pass rate. I hope this gives you some peace of mind. I just think the school isn't as widely known and remember "it takes ten positives to overcome one negative" so it's hard to build up a widely known, great reputation.

I feel it's a very popular program, they get a lot of applicants and everyone I've talked to is aware of it.

I was very impressed by the pass rate as well, but then I learned that they weed people out at an incredible rate once you're in the program - and that's the reason it's so high. Now I'm not saying weeding ppl out is a bad thing, but from what I hear (and I know that isn't everything) out of 100 students that enter the main campus only 40 will graduate. Not because they weren't competent, and no simply because nursing school is just too hard.... but because they make the program so incredibly difficult to get through. I believe MCG is one of the best nursing schools in the state, and their graduation rate is VERY high! I can imagine their NCLEX would be a little lower if more students actually graduate.

I want caring professors, and I'm hearing they are not at all caring. They have had a lot of issues on the main campus recently and many students have had complaints.

I need to go by the clinical class room one day and wait for one of the students to come out so I can ask them about the program. I know of one person right now who is in the program and told me to run as far away from it as possible...I don't know her well so I didn't go into any more depth with her.

I just want to be sure I do the right thing...as much as I worry about it, I'm still scheduling my TEAS exam for this August at N GA.

Hey everyone!

I'm joining this a little late but I also applied to North GA for this fall! I talked to someone in the nursing department today and they said they're hoping letter's go out by the end of this week! I'll be checking my mail box every day! I have heard different things about their nursing school and instructors too, I'm hoping they've made some changes and things will be better this fall. I'm not too worried about it though, I don't think it could really be that terrible.

I had some pretty cruddy professors at UGA, too... I think that's everywhere. But, where I work a few women told me that it's fine and they'd have no problem hiring a nursing student from there (I work with RNs, LPNs, and CNPs). So, as far as my "heresay" goes - I've heard more positive than negative things. I didn't check my mailbox today - too lazy since it's at the front of the apartment complex, but will be checking it quite frequently now! Do you think they'd send them out today and just "trick" us that they will be sent out at the end of the week?!? That'd be cruel... well, we're getting close! Best of luck to you ALL!!!!

It's good to know that I'm not the only person harassing the mailbox. I wish they would give more information about the point system they use to determine acceptance. Ahhh. I can't stand waiting or surprises.

Good luck to everyone!

So, nothing today. I'm going to be brave tomorrow and NOT go to the mailbox. I'm driving myself crazy! So... if any of y'all go to the mailbox tomorrow and have a letter - let me know! I'll check the mail again on Saturday. I'm so stinkin' nervous... I'm hoping for the best for all of us!!

Yep, nothing for me either yet! I say don't check till next Monday. Especially since the lady I spoke with was only hopeful that they would go out at the end of this week, not certain they would. Unless you live really close to the campus, the chances of you getting the letter on Saturday are slim. So I say, don't keep driving yourself crazy! Enjoy your weekend, keep yourself busy and relaxed and wait till Monday to check! That's my plan :) haha

Okay, I won't check my mailbox... except I'm waiting on a bill (fun, huh?). I suppose it could wait until Monday. If any of you all hear from the school today, tomorrow or even Monday, please let me know! I'll be there in a flash to check my mailbox out!

I just got my acceptance letter today! :) So happy - I have been waiting a long time! Best of luck to everyone! I cannot wait to get started this fall!

Congrats! What were your statistics (teas, GPA, etc) if you don't mind answering?

Thanks and congrats!!!

Everyone should check your mailbox! I just got my acceptance letter, too! Hope you all find one as well!
