georgia baptist nursing school

U.S.A. Georgia

hello. i'm from atlanta and have recently been accepted by georgia baptist. i'm still waiting on letters from kennesaw, brenau, and north georgia. does anyone have any feedback about any of these schools, especially current student??/

I also attend GPC and have been accepted to Mercer and GPC for fall. I put down deposits on both for the same reason.....Mercer is too expensive($6,900 per semester!) so I'm unsure until I receive my financial aid package, and I heard it's not good at GPC. :uhoh21:

Here's the deal, I have a friend currently in GPCs program (where I may end up attending because it's the only affordable way cause I'm waitlisted at NGCSU). Anyway, he said it IS possible to succeed but you have to enter the program knowing that there won't be much "handholding" by the professors. In other words, they don't really care if you succeed so your on your own. In other words, you get what you pay for and a lot of people leave the program because they expected a more "caring environment." Their spring 2005 class started with 55 and are now down to 40. I also hear there is a problem with "disorganization" by the faculty. its ALOT of material so don't even think about holding a job. Your in clinical from 6am-2pm and have reading every night. The way I look at it, if GPC is my only option I'm just gonna go in preparing for the worst, join the student nurse association so I have a support system and spend my summer "preparing" by maybe studying the medical math problems, terminology and NCLEX style test questions and maybe I'll be o.k. It's gonna be "hard" no matter where you go but when its' all over, wouldn't you rather be $5,000 in debt vs.$40,000? :stone

Hi Sherri,

Im currently a nanny and work in the afternoons. How many days a week are you in clinicals? Is it Monday through Friday? I normally work from 7:00am till 9:00am then 2:30pm-7:30pm.

I am currently taking chemistry with Burkhart. It is soo hard! How did you go in chemistry?

From what I understand, clinical is 6am-2pm and most likely either 2-3 days a week (as that is how it is at most schools). Lecture is on the alternating days and is a full day 8am-4pm. And yes, thats one class all day with 15 min breaks. Thats why they say working is not really an option which makes it very hard for people that need to work. I also took Burkhart and I liked her a lot however, the tests were really hard. I studied all the time, hired a tutor at $50 an hour, 3 times a week and I still scraped by with a C. That was my only C at GPC though. Even my doctor got a C in Chemiistry so don't worry if thats all you make. :)

Just found out that at Kennesaw you get Fridays off...nice :)

I have finally become a member of this nursing forum although I have been actively reading it for some time. Can anyone tell me the cost of mercer per semester? I currently attend GPC, and am thinking of applying to their nursing program next fall because I think Mercer will be too expensive. I have heard some negative things about GPC from this site. Can anyone tell me what is good about the program and also what makes it so bad?

Yep it was pretty bad. I attended their program about a year ago and dropped at withdrawl time. I felt like I was going to end up hurting someone in clinical because I didnt have all the information. We werent even done with check offs when we went to clinical. I am now at Gordon College in Barnesville,Ga and doing so much better. They have an ADN program and I paid about $690 for fall semester and $792 for spring semester. The teachers are more avaliable and encouraging. They pretty much have an open door policiy and are willing to help you out with any and everything. Definintely do your research before you decide to attend any schoo. (vist the campus, talk to other students and teachers)

I also know someone who just graduated, GPC. Reccommended that I look at other schools. The only good thing I hear about GPC is price. I could apply there now but, am going to wait and go to a BSN program. Just do not want to be frustrated. I have called GPC on a couple of occasions and the admissions person responded as if I were interrupting her.

That's how they treated me too! They assume you're not good enough for their program from the first conversation! Crazy...they need to realize that some of us are really good students who want to be really good nurses. To their credit, they do have to deal with a higher proportion of students who are in it for the money or who have a lower level of motivation. About a fourth of my A&P II Lab class CHEATED (blatantly, I might add) on the midterm, and bragged beforehand about how they had gotten away with doing the same in A&P I Lab. Not the highest caliber of students at times... :uhoh21:

hey has any one been accepted into the GBC program for fall 08?
