Georgia Highlands College Waiting Game!

Published

Hopefully, we are getting close to hearing something. I wanted to start a new thread and see if anyone wanted to play the waiting game for fall ADN Program. We've been waiting since April 1st and it's about time we heard something.:anbd:

hey guys,

Book info: if you have money to spare BUY THEM FROM AMAZON....if you have financial aid i totally get it.

Uniforms: if you have money now, then buy them, if not you dont need them until clinicals start.

If you are buying a spiral notebook(lol) good luck, your going to have ten.

Materials: buy a HUGE 3 ring heavy duty binder. separate your notebook into test tabs(like test one material, and etc)

The course packet you have to print off is about 200 pages and has what outlines youll be using for each test/lecture, your skills check-off sheet, your notecard examples for clinicals and a bunch of forms you will sign the first class. PUT ALL OF THIS into your notebook.

my advice is ALWAYS print off the outlines/powerpoints for each class and take notes off those, do NOT handwrite in class...easiest way to fail. thats how my first test grade was 58 and second 84

Ashley, thanks for the info. Every bit helps...especially the part about taking notes on an extra copy of the powerpoint!! Can we get the course packet at the bookstore ahead of time? Or is it given to us by the instructors?

Had a voicemail on my phone from earlier, the scholarship apps will be emailed out on Monday.

Thanks dallas...I was starting to get worried about the apps!

I know, I was starting to think the deadline would pass and I would be s.o.l.!

Funny thing is that Dr. Slaven told me she would email me the application. After reading your post, I went back and email her my address. I'll let you know if I get an email on Monday. Everything is moving so fast.....

HopeforMelissa, where is the cpr class you are taking on the 7th, and how did you register?

The CPR class will be held at Coosa Valley Technical College (which is now Georgia Northwestern Technical College) on 7-7-09 from 9-2. The charge is $45. You would need to contact Elaine or Gayle in the continuing education department (706-295-6958) to sign up/register. I would contact one of them quickly if you are needing the class, because they told me that 6 people is the maximum number of people they will accept for one class.

I just talked with the recent graduate from GHC!! First, we talked about the Wellstar scholarship program. She stated that you go in front of a panel and they ask questions. Also, you have to some type of weird test too??? She said its like a mini SAT???? Oh and the most important part she told me is that its hard to find a job after nursing but if you get the scholarship, you get 1st choice on any of the wellstar jobs.

Then, we talked about school. The first weeks are REALLY easy....you learn how to take BP, etc.. The classes are only in one room. She stated that you go 4 days a week in the beginning and then eventually 2 days but more clinicals.

I asked her which class was the hardest...she thought that MedSurg was the hardest class. Also, she stated that she really liked all of the teachers.

All in all, she really loved the program! She stated that its not impossible....it just takes all of your time. You will not have a life for 2 years...that's for sure. The biggest tip that she could give was to record all classes.

that's good info starrdan. thanks!!

Hey guys, I just got back from running all over the place. I got my shot records filled out at the health dept and copies of them. Then went to the dr and he completed the back of the form... So, the clinical passport is done, and cpr is done, insurance waiver done,...I've gotta now do the background check......And am taking ashley prern's advice and I am going to try to get some of my textbooks from either amazon or half.com

Thanks stardan for all the good info about the wellstar program....Thanks for sharing it.
