Georgia Highlands College Waiting Game!

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hopefully, we are getting close to hearing something. I wanted to start a new thread and see if anyone wanted to play the waiting game for fall ADN Program. We've been waiting since April 1st and it's about time we heard something.:anbd:

Oh no!! I saw that the uniforms are Landua. I do not like the way they fit on me.

Do you know if we are supposed to only wear the uniforms to clinicals? Do we wear regular clothes to class?

From what I've heard, we only wear the uniforms to clinicals (which we don't even start for 6-8 weeks after classes begin).

I can't wait until orientation! I'm so excited to get all of the rest of the information.

Me too!!! My orientation is on July 13th at 1125.

Hope, did you take the CPR class? How was the class/test?

i signed up for july 13th registration also. ( i can't remember what time though....i wrote it down on my paperwork at home.)

the aug 5 and aug 6 mandatory "keys to success" are the orientation/workshop days.

i have not taken the cpr class yet. i am scheduled to do that on july 7th. i had already tried to schedule it back in late may and last week, but they cancelled both of them because they didn't have enough people sign up for it. :( i don't like pushing it that close, but i guess i'll have to. they are supposed to give us our certification card that day though, so it shouldn't be a problem.

also, somebody asked earlier in this thread about financial aid being used in the campus bookstore. i've copied and pasted the email that i got about that below:

fall semester 2009 bookstore financial aid days

for fall semester 2009, georgia highlands college will allow students to charge their

books against their excess financial aid at either of our two locations, rome or

cartersville. the approved fall 2009 dates for charging at the bookstore are as

follows:

saturday august 8th- wednesday august 26th

to ensure your balance will be available to use at the bookstore, please make sure all

financial paperwork is submitted on time. to be able to use your available financial

aid at the bookstores, your application package for financial aid must be complete,

aid awarded and authorized in banner score. you can check your award letter in banner

score for your award amount. financial aid balances will be updated at the bookstore

once a day during the above dates.

third party payments

for students wanting to charge against their third party aid, a fall 2009

authorization form (ani) must be received in the business office prior to the above

dates. the contact for any questions regarding third party contracts is megan

davidson, [email protected] in the floyd campus business office. to ensure that

the deadline is met, please contact your counselor today with the above deadlines.

that's a good thing, because we will have already been through the registration and orientation by then, so we will know exactly what we need from the bookstore.

Thanks for the info!!! So, do we have a standard schedule for nursing? We can pick and choose what classes we want?

FYI....I just found out that a new graduate from GHC nursing is now working on the acute floor. I went up there to see if I could find out who she was and possibly get some advice from her. I will try again tomorrow.

Great info guys...I'm still going to go by health dept tom morning b/c they do have most of my shot records. Then I'll make an appt w/primary care dr.... Has anyone heard from Slaven yet?

Dallas....I thought about you yesterday.

You posted something earlier in this thread about gaining 6 pounds. So, yesterday when I went to purchase the uniforms, I tried to bottoms on. I looked in the mirror and thought, "Self!!!!! You have got to do something about that butt!"

Trying on those uniform bottoms is a great motivation for losing weight ya'll. :chuckle

Toooooooooo funny. I go back to the dr tomm(a specialist, not primary care) and I'm hoping I lost a few lbs. We have an electronic scale at home that is apparently broke. It's eight pounds off.... I knew my clothes were getting tighter. I've been cutting back here lately so we will see if its working. Did you buy your uniform yet? Do we just need one scrub top, pants, and lab coat or two sets?

Specializes in CNA- many years ago.

I bought two tops, two bottoms, the lab coat, and three patches. I decided that I would wait until we start clinicals to see if I needed another top and bottom.

Let's exchange ideas....what are you guys going to do for organization in the program? There are some other threads on this website that talk about different ideas to keep organized. I like to hear about the way other people keep organized.

I haven't really done anything so far except buy a spiral notebook type calendar/planner. I have written down a bunch in it already. (appointments, orientation, registration, etc)

Hopeformelissa, I am like you always looking for tips about studying and organizing. That being said, you don't need tips, you make all A's anyways! J.k. I bought an agenda for dates and deadlines and I always have spiral binders for each class. Other than that, I'm giving consideration to upgrading to a better phone. I am thinking a blackberry so that I can still stay somewhat connected even though I be in class all the time.

Do any of you guys know any other threads where we can get insight into the program from present students? I am sure there is some good information out there as to what we should or shouldn't do, or what to look for, or which clinical sites/instructors are the best, etc. We just need to find those students with time on their hands to advise us

That would be priceless.

Dr Slaven has still not opened my email. Has anyone called or anything? I am wondering if I should call too.

I called and left a message Tues evening...No luck.
