Georgia Baptist College of Nursing Fall 2009

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am gearing up to apply for Fall 2009 at Georgia Baptist. I wanted to know if anyone else is applying there for Fall 2009 as well, or if there is anyone who has already been accepted and wouldn't mind sharing their credentials (i.e. overall gpa, nursing gpa, science gpa, if all prerequisities were completed, net score etc.) I am just trying to get a feel for the type of applicant they are looking for. Thanks so muc!

Congrats boodleone! I got my letter. They only offered some loans i could take out. No aid. :(

CONGRATS BOODLEONE!:yeah: when is orientation, I havent got a letter of notification yet...or is it in the acceptance packet?

Congrats boodleone!

Yeah, I got enough financial aid (loans) to cover tuition, but I'm trying to figure out how to pay for dorms, books, etc. I really didn't want to have to pay cash for them, but I really don't want a private loan because the ones I have found do not have fixed rates...Ugh!

143trinity...

the info i have regarding the orientations is: "bsn students: registration for bsn-entry nursing students is completed at orientation. the dates for orientation are tuesday, july 21 from 8:30-3:30 or tuesday, august 18 from 8:30-3:30. entering students must select one orientation date. each student must reserve their date for orientation. reservations will be taken after may 15. in order to reserve an orientation date, the student must be in compliance with all health requirements and health forms and immunization documents must be on file in campus health. to request your orientation date email ms. germany at [email protected]. orientation is a requirement for program entry".

i found the info here: http://www2.mercer.edu/nursing/admissions/enrollment+fall+2009.htm

hope that helps...i haven't reserved my spot yet, but i'm pretty sure that i'm going to try to get into the august 18th session since i haven't moved to georgia yet...

Congrats angel!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :yeah:

If anyone doesnt mind answering this question, may i ask what kind of loans are they offering in the financial aid package, is it private loans only or can you get the stafford subsidized and unsubsidized loans too?

You can get extra money for living expenses through private loans. Though I think now with the economy they are harder to find. I know I had to take out private loans in order to live while going to school. At least now you only have to cover two years instead of three :) Also, try to find a scholarship from a local hospital. You may need to suck it up and get a private loan for this first year and then you might be able to get a scholarship from a local hospital in order to cover some of the costs for the second year. I know Northside, Piedmont, St. Joes and CHOA all offer scholarships if you agree to work for them after graduation. Word to the wise, with the economy the way it is right now and difficulty many new grads are having with finding a new grad residency program slot after graduation, it would serve you well to get involved with a local hospital as soon as possible through some type of scholarship program. That way when you graduate you already are guaranteed a job in a residency program. I work for Piedmont and had a scholarship from them through Mercer and Piedmont initiative. Piedmont had over 400 applicants for their residency program when I applied. They hired 20 - 25 new nurses out of the 400 applications. Start now developing relationships with hospitals in the area and your life will be a whole lot easier when the time comes to find a job. Also, many hospitals offer summer extern programs for the summer between your first and second year. Take advantage of those too. Get your foot in the door anyway possible!! Good luck to everyone beginning the nursing school journey!! You can do it!

Hey everyone, I just signed up for allnurses.com and love it so far.

A little background on myself:

My name is Helen and I'm currently a student at Georgia State. I'm 27 years old and spent the last 3 years getting my prerequisites done while I worked full time (55 hours a week is tough!!). I took a semester off from work and just started looking for a job at a hospital in case I don't get into nursing schools for the next two semesters. I applied to Kennesaw State for fall admission but was declined and they strongly suggested that I reapply so I did and now waiting for their answer for spring semester. I was thinking of applying to Georgia State but they have so many things to do and I just got frustrated at meeting every requirement to have my ducks in a row but now, I am thinking of applying for spring admission if I don't get into a school by then.

I also applied to GBCN for this fall and was notificed yesterday that I was waitlisted. I don't quite know what that means or if I still stand a chance so I hope it works out!!

Congrats to all of you that got in!! I "hope" to see you there if they can give me a seat!
