Georgetown or Pittsburgh

If you had to choose between these two schools, where would you go, and why?

I might be in this predicament, so I am looking for some advice.

I figured this would be the best source to get an answer.

Thank you all.

I am greatful I am accepted into the CRNA programs at both schools. From talking with some CRNA's at my hospital, I was told that Pitt has a better reputation for CRNA School. They pointed out that that there are certain faults with the Georgetown's program, such as competition for cases. One of these CRNAs, who is a Georgetown CRNA grad even, stated "Georgetown is not worth the cost of the education and experience I had." She said that when she started her first job she wasn't up to par with the level of knowledge and experience of other new grads.

I really don't want to base this very important decision on the views of a limited and possibly biased group of people. That's why I looking for more opinions.

Georgetown absolutely! For too many reasons to mention. Did you interview at both, and were accepted at both? Where do you stand in the application process? I went to Pitt for undergrad, and am from the Burgh. However, I received all my clinical practice in DC/MD, and know a few GU students/grads from work...where they did clinical rotations. Tell me what kind of environment and specific aspects are important to you in a program, and I may be able to assist more. But, if it were me it would be a no brainer.

Go to the burgh! Go Steelers! Oh, and the school is really good too. I was accepted part-time to Pitt, but chose to go to Cincinnati instead. I think you'll get a fantastic variety of quality experiences there. But I sure could do with a Primanti's sandwich right now. Mmmm.

I am in Georgetown.

Very happy, very satisfied with the education I'm getting.

Acey,

are you in the CRNA program?

Pittsburgh has awesome medical facilities, lots of cultural opportunities, interesting ethnic neighborhoods and a comfortable cost of living. Academically, Georgetown might have a slight advantage, but only slight. I'd choose Pittsburgh. (Of course, I'm biased, as I consider it my hometown).

Great city and very, very liveable. The media complains its not a great place for singles, BUT I think otherwise.

Along the same lines - I may be choosing between Samuel Merritt and University of New England. Based solely on quality and reputation, which program would you recommend?

Hey Apais,

I've read some of your responses to threads and I think I might have met you at the Gonzaga interview, Jan 24th. We were in the first interview group...the few out of towners. Are you from Vermont? I am the traveller from Hawaii. Anyhow I do know a crna from my hospital and he raves about Sam. Well good luck in your decision making too! :) Congrats!

Yup, that's me. That interview was kinda yech, wasn't it? My brain went blank in the clinical one. They told me I couldn't get a sat on my coding patient, how else could I assess oxygenation? I sat there like an idiot, couldn't think for the life of me. I hate being nervous. How was your interview? Did you get in?
