Georgetown Online FNP program

Hi guys,

I'm working on my application for Georgetown's online FNP program and found out that they now have an interview instead of the video essay submission.

Has anyone had an actual interview with one of their Admission Counselors yet? If any, would you please share your experiences? Any tips on acing the interview? :)

Thanks in advance!

I am... I have no idea how they decide who they look at in which order. I do know that it's rolling admissions though so it's not a whole group they're going through at once and I have no idea how many applicants they get to each program. Have you scheduled your interview?

Yeah... when I talked to my admission counselor, the decision would be made a little quicker than the ones for the May or July cohorts... I don't know how it works like that tho :(

No, I haven't scheduled my interview yet. Still working on writing the statement of purpose... Speaking of the interview.. were you given a chance to ask them questions?

I'm trying to just focus on my purpose statement, but I can't stop thinking about the interview at the same time! It's gonna feel so weird talking to the webcam by myself answering the prompts... What would you say about the interview? Was it okay for you?

I didn't get to ask any questions at all. It was kind of weird talking to the camera but you're using your phone for the audio so that made it feel a little more natural. I would read the question then answer it as if I was having a conversation with someone on the phone. I was trying really hard to look at the camera but I definitely found myself looking away at times.

I was was hoping that the interview would have been slightly more personalized. I have weaknesses and I wish I could have been called out on them. I wrote the additional statement so that I addressed them but writing them out and talking them out aren't the same. I feel I show my drive more in a face to face conversation vs writing it out.

Yeah I'd definitely prefer video essays over such a weird live, recorded interview! :(

It does sound like the questions are very general since the counselor who's there during the interview is present basically just to record the whole thing. So you don't get to ask questions or talk to them during the interview, and you are just answering the prompts given to you. Ahhhh

How's your application coming along? I'm on day 11 of waiting for an answer but the school had easter break last week so I'm assuming that means admin staff didn't work either...

I did a lot the last couple days! Submitted my app and did the live interview, which I completely bombed. I got extremely nervous that I literally just froze at each question that popped up on the screen. I blanked and stumbled for answers...... I hope they take nerves of an applicant into account when reviewing the whole application stuff... :( I'm just so disappointed in myself. Sigh... Have you heard back yet?

í ½í¸ž I totally stuttered through the entire interview so I'm sure you didn't do as bad as you think you did! I haven't heard back yet... on day 11 since going to faculty but they have been on holiday for easter and classes start back tomorrow so I'm hopeful that I'll hear something by the end of the week!

positive vibes/prayers for you!

Let me know how things go! I have already been checking my email inbox like crazy lol

Thanks for your kind words.

Sending positive vibes your way too! :)

Did they tell you how long it would be before you would hear a decision? I'm on day 13 today... really hoping for lucky number 13! But of course last week was easter break so part of me worries that the break will mean my waiting will go into next week í ½í¸•

My counselor said it would take 2-4 weeks after app goes to faculty for review. He also said he's seen some applicants getting a decision within a few days -- didn't tell me if it was an acceptance or denial. But I've also read some posts here that it took 4-6 weeks for some people to get acceptance letter too!

I know right! I'm like I'm at day 13... this cant be good (I've read where people have gotten acceptances in 2-4 days)... so I'm just trying to be pessimistic about it so hopefully when the denial letter comes I won't be too upset :-/

part of me wants to email my counselor to see if she can tell if it's even close to being reviewed or if a decision has been made but I don't want to annoy her or sound too anxious/desperate

ETA: have you started getting emails from other schools? When I first started seeking info I got emails from Simmons and now from USC... part of me thinks this is a bad sign but part of me is hoping that this happens to everyone

Yeah... although it's been just a few days since I submitted mine, this whole wait game is already killing me!!! :( I just keep thinking back to the day I bombed that interview.. sigh... oh well, what could we do..

Same! I've been getting emails from Simmons and now from USC. But I just opened up my Spam and found that USC has been sending me emails since late March (which is before I submitted my app to GU).

Have you gotten your temporary username and password for MyAccess? I've seen some people talking about the MyAccess status change where it said 'please contact admin counselor' and a link to pay their deposit and they ended up getting accepted to the program, but my counselor hasn't given me any info on that website....
