Genesis Healthcare Nurse Residency Program

Published

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone applied to Genesis Healthcare Nurse Residency Program schedule for May 2010 and if you heard anything back from them yet? Also, can anyone shed some light about this facility... such as nursing salary per hour, schedule/hrs: 8 or 12hr shifts, opportunity of gaining various certifications, etc.... Thank you for any information....:D

Ooops had one more question as well. Do you get paid more for working nights and weekends or is it all one base pay?

:) I start my new grad residency tomorrow in Nj. So far it looks really organized and looks like we will get to learn a lot. We get our schedule tomorrow so I can post it so you guys get a idea of what they do. Right now with the new grad market being what it is you guys might want to look into it.

I have a question for the one girl who already did the program......how many patient do you have per shift? So far that's the only thing I'm nervous about.

The training is great........ The Coordinator P.H. who runs the program is the BEST:D.... she takes the time to teach you everything you need to know from the computer systems to the Nursing Units..... I have been in the Nurse Residency Program for 3months now... Patient ratio depends on which center that you will be working at? You are absoltely right the new grad market is STILL bad for new grads....

It depends on the center that you are working at? because different centers have various budgets i am guessing that they decide were the money would be allocated to whether it goes toward salary, shift differential, etc... You may want to ask your center's HR person who can BEST answer this question for you..... Good Luck. ;)

Hi - where in NJ are you doing your nurse residency? Can you please tell me how to go about applying? Do I just apply for a registered nurse position on their weibsite and then I automatically become a nurse resident because I'm a new grad? Thanks in advance for your help!

I am currently working in at a SNF on a progressive short stay unit. I absolutely love it. I am learning and doing alot. Working with IV's, PIIC lines, Wound Vacs, etc... It's just like being on a MedSurge Floor.... I have been at Genesis for 3months now and its great:)

Thank you so much for the info. I'm getting really excited, I do a shadow day next week to get familiar with the facility and then I start orientation 9/7. So thankful I found a job! :yeah:

Hey sorry for the late reply. Been so busy with the new grad program. Anyways they are doing another one in NJ in like November I think. They should start posting the link soon for you to apply. But the program is excellent and you learn so much. I'm only on week 3 and I feel so comfortable already and have 7 more weeks of training so I know I will be very prepared to be on my own. This is a LTC but what you will find is that your residents are acute still when you get them if you work on a post acute floor. I highly recommend this externship and seeing its one of the only one's in NJ right now you should go for it lol. I will post the link for the new grad program when they announce it if you would like.

I worked for Genesis Healthcare coming out of school. I did their residency program simultaneously with a Med Surg RN position. I think Genesis is a great company to work for. Some centers are better ran than others but some hospitals are better ran than others as well. However, they will give you a good med surg experience. When I did the residency program, I was paired with another nurse for 6 weeks and the nurse educator pulled nurses off the floors for debriefings and educational stuff. The pay rate depends on locality. Some geographical areas just pay better than others.

Wow thats great. I didnt get a year long for my residency program.

I know this thread is over a year or 2 old, but I have a question regarding this program. The nurse recruiter just emailed me and said that she is awaiting details on the new cohort for the new RN residency program coming up. She is going to contact me once she has news on the location and start date. The recruiter is from South Jersey, so the location will probably be in one of the branches in South Jersey. Is anyone in the program right now? And did you apply to that specific program, or did you apply to a certain RN position and a recruiter just told you about the program (similar to my situation right now)? There are no indications on the website that there is a new RN residency program, so I wouldn't have known about it if the recruiter did not call me.

Any other details will be helpful! Like, salary and hours you usually work (shift: 8 hr or 12 hr).

Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
