generic & trade name

Published

hi--just wondering, in all the med questions, do they give u both the generic and trade name? Even for common ones, for instance, digoxin. Would they refer to digoxin and lanoxin OR just state, "a patient is taking digoxin, ..." Those uncommon drugs, would they give both also?

Thanks!

For all the meds on my test they had both the generic and the trade. If they didn't have both I would have been a whole lot of trouble, since I learned meds by classes and I need the generic in order to know what class the med belonged to.

Nursing school stressed learning BOTH generic and trade and I think it really helped me. I agree that knowing the generic name helps you know what the med is for. The ending will usually tell you the drug class, hence you'll know what the med is used for. Brand names can be any off the wall name the manufacturer comes up with.

I had select all that apply on most of my meds...so meds i thought i felt I had some sense about were now within those wretched sata's.

I so don't want to do this test again and keep thinking there's no way I could have passed that...not with all those select all that apply questions!
