Hey Everybody-

I would like to know who has been your biggest support system through your education and Nursing School and how will you thank them once you graduate?

For me it has been my Mother. I have been so blessed in having her help with my kids and just being available to talk when I was having a rough time. I am going to thank them (stepdad too) with a cruise in the fall. I would not have been able to this with out them.

Second is my husband and children. They have put up with all these changes for the last 4 years so I am taking them to a waterpark this summer and Disneyland/world in FL next summer.

Can't wait to see what everyone else is going to do!!!! Have a great day!!

For me its been my husband and kids. Then my Mom and Dad (even though they live three hours away). If it wasn't for having the kids in the first place I would never have done this and its my husband who keeps me going at it.

My daughter is my inspiration. I am going to be home schooling her. I know at some point I will have to tell her the importance of getting a degree. If I don't have one I know I won't have any credibility. I make as much or more as an RN now, but I always wanted to be in health care and I don't want to be a hypocrite to my daughter.

First comes my husband, then my three small children, and then my parents. My husband reassures me that I can do this whenever I get discouraged. My kids are the reason I want to be the best I can be, so when I preach to them I won't be a hypocrit. My parents are the ones who keep my children while I attend school and hubby works so I don't have to worry about my children. I don't know what I am going to do to thank them all yet. I have 1.5 more years to think really hard about it :) .

My biggest support was my mom. Yeah, my husband was so supportive that he packed up his stuff and left me one day while I was in clinicals with 6 wks left to go in school, a**h**e. We got to write up a thank you speech that one of our instructors read while we were getting pinned and accepting our diploma. Then, we got to choose who pinned us, so I chose my mom and then they read the speech while you were getting pinned. I would have to say that my number 2 support system was my classmates, we were all in it together and we really rooted eachother on. Of course, we were all crying so much at the ceremony because of exhaustion and the thank yous that those pictures were AWESOME! Good luck to you, I hope you have as good of an experience as I did. :balloons:

My biggest support has been my husband. We're going on a 7 night cruise in May to celebrate.

my biggest support would have to be a tie. first is a friend from school. we met at another school when we were doing pre-reqs and then decided to go to a nursing school in the next county so we carpool. it is so great to get in the car after clinical and talk about what happened during the day. next would be my hubby. when i was scared about leaving my career and going to nursing school he was there every step of the way. when i was scared to death the first day of nursing school he was there. he even got up with me 3:30 in the morning my first day of clinical to keep my mind off of things while i was getting ready. then right before i left he took a pic of me and has it at work!!

My biggest support has been my father! He calls every week (he lives in Ca), and asks how my tests went. He keeps rooting for me.

My husband is a different story. Altho supportive in his own way, when I am studying, he will ask if I am finished yet after 30 min. After our catheter test out, he asked how hard could it be to "just put a tube in"....LOL..he has no clue how many steps are involved....with everything. :uhoh3:

Do you get a chance to thank someone special in your graduation or pinning ceremony?

My parents, without a doubt. Behind them - my kids and my best friend (even though she lives 70 miles away). My husband isn't very supportive at all, actually.

We will. We're doing two slideshows. One has pics of us during nursing school, the sappy ones for our classmates to think about "remember whens". While we're getting pinned (or walking in, not sure), we have another slide show. We each get a slide, and put pictures on there. I have a pic of me as a kid, a pic of my family at my brother's wedding, and a pic of my fiance and me. We recorded something to play while the pictures are showing, a thank you to our family, or whoever you want to thank.

I think my support has been my mom mostly, but my dad also. They've put up with so many stupid decisions, and would be in a cardboard box right now if it weren't for them. My fiance has been awesome also...he's a first level nursing student, and is so supportive of me. -andrea

My biggest support system was my parents, even though I was well into my 30s. When I graduated I got them a sterling platter that was engraved "thanks for all you've done to help me gratuate" (I didn't notice until it was too late they misspelled graduate. :uhoh3: ) My mom was moved to tears when I presented it to them at my graduation dinner they gave me.

I think thanking those who supported us along the way is important, because nursing school is not all about us, it's also about the sacrifices those who love us make. :)
