What do you like most about nursing school? (A happy thread!) - page 2

I thought it was a good time to start a thread where we could all share what we love about learning to be a nurse! Personally, I can't believe how much I love nursing school! I am in my first... Read More

What do I like most about nursing school?
I love the feeling of belonging to a dedicated group of people focused on the same goals. I love that I am learning so many new things, that I am challenged each and every time I go to class or clinical.

I will love graduation more, of course. The "What do you NOT like about nursing school?" list would probably be longer than this one.

What a great idea for a thread. There are so many complaints about the stresses but the joys are overwhelming.

Every time I walk into the hospital, I get the feeling I'm entering into a sacred place. What can be more sacred than a place where life comes into the world, and life leaves the world and suffering begs to be alleviated. My patients give me the privilege of coming into their lives for this short period of time. When I offer my hand, they grab it and squeeze it, holding on for dear life sometimes. There's a sharing there... a trust offered that's indescribable. They thank me but it is I who am the grateful one.

There is also the comradarie (and yes, the drama) among us students. We have been thrown together in this struggle, practically joined at the hip. We eat together, sit through lectures together, help each other through clinical and sometimes even gain employment together and the yield is friendships that transcend just hanging out.

The experience is one I will always cherish.

I am not in nursing school yet-just finishing up pre-reqs. But I have been amazed at how much I have enjoyed being back in school. I have always looked at college as just a means to an end-something I had to endure to become a nurse. But much to my surprise, I am enjoying the whole experience.
I have had awesome instructors who go out of their way to be helpful. I have also made a lot of new friends-several of us "pre-nursing" students have really bonded. I especially enjoy group Critical Thinking exercises in A & P and Microbiology. I am with great groups in both of these classes and always leave feeling like I have learned so much.

I have really enjoyed clinicals this semester. Best yet. Awesome instructor. Great hospital. Fabulous (for the most part) staff. I love being able to help the nurses make a difference in the clients' day. A fellow student explained his goal for each clinical day was to make the client's day better, however he could. I love it when I can leave at the end of the day feeling like I made a difference.

I love the fact that I am learning so much and am actually retaining it to apply later on, for years to come. I have a BS in Biotechnology and I must say, I have learned more in the past semester and couple weeks, than I did in my undergrad years. Even though I can't wait til graduation, I will miss all the learning there is to be done (even though the learning never stops once you are a RN).

I actually LOVE clinical this semester! Last semester had me discouraged because we were in a TCC and then a nursing home, I felt there was nothing really to do, I was bored, and I felt lost ALL the time (walking around looking stupid). I love the new instructor we have, the floor we're on, and the nurses that work there. They are amazing! And I am getting so much more experience that I have now figured out I can handle. I can't tell you how many times last semester I questioned whether this was for me, now I know... and I LOVE that.

i love learning so much everyday! it's amazing how much your brain can soak in! like a huge absorbing sponge! lol.
were you ever afraid that you wouldn't be able to learn it all??? i'm going to be starting nursing school next january and i'm terrified that i won't be able to absorb everything. all of my business jobs have been totally no-brainers.

I love how when it's 5am-time for clincals-I'm suddenly not tired anymore although I've been up all night. I love that now the end is IN sight (!!!) I have these complicated patients that I actually know how to manage/prioritize. I also love my two best girlfriends who I wouldn't have met if not for this program. I think it's soo fateful and wonderful that when I walk into the hospital in the AM (and I'm NOT a morning person) I know that this is the career I really really want.

I love feeling college educated. Having a patient tell me they're a little anxious about having a student take care of them and by then end of the day they're like you're gonna be a great nurse, I'd be happy to have you take care of me anytime. I like knowing the answers to a question a patient has asked me. And I love getting to do procedures, even just changing a coverderm because I get to write MY name on it.
