Should I say anything or wait?

Hi everyone! I just started my job as a Secretary/Na in April. Between interviewing and starting orientation I found out I had gotten into an ADN program. My dilemma is whether to inform my Nurse Manager of my acceptance into school or keep it to myself until I see how my schedule at school will be after I go to my ADN orientation in June? I will be working 7a-7p e/o weekend and one day out the week.

What should I do?

Congratulations in getting into nursing school. I don't think you need to say anything yet as you don't know how it will effect your working hours. Go to orientation in June and find out if you have a free day during the week. If not, then you will have a longer work record and can ask to work just on the weekend. If they know that you are a hard worker then they are more likely to support you going to nursing school.

Have heard of more than one instance where an employer states they will work with someone's school schedule, but then the flexibility disappears, so be prepared for this possibility. However, I would follow the advice of the other poster and wait until you find out what your school schedule will be. Good luck and congratulations on starting your nursing program.

Thanks for the advice :) .

I will definitely wait until after orientation to see how my schedule will be and whether or not they can work with me on my unit.

I think you should tell them. Alot of employers are very understanding of students and will work with you. Good luck to you!!!!!!!!

Tell them eventually, yes. Tell them now, no. The OP has not been working very long (only started last month) and does not even know if she needs to change what she is currently working. I would not stir up potential problems at work until the OP actually knows what is going to be happening in the fall.

Congrats on the acceptance!
