For you guys that rewrite notes, do you retain more when you retype or re-handwrite? I type for one class & another, re-handwrite.

I type all of my notes. I always have and do it for all subjects.

Every day I read all my notes in every class.

I also read every chapter and type an outline and read that every day.

Has this helped u maintain/keep a higher GPA? Wondering...

I rewrite almost everything for anatomy! I refer to my notes, and then put it all on 3x5 cards. I think I have like a million of them.. and I'm keeping them all filed in cardfile boxes for the comprehensive final.

I like that the 3x5's can fit in my pocket, and I can take them just about anywhere. I find myself looking at them when I am stuck in traffic.

One of the girls in my class does the same thing, but she files hers in a separate box when she knows that information inside-out. This way she only studies the stuff she's not 100% on. (I think this is a great idea, and might have to redo my system when I review!)

Have u tried to print these on soft colors? I do, as white is offensive to the eye. Also, take a trip over to the local office supply and purchase the rings to hold your notecards together (I think mine were 3-4 $, & I bought the variety size pack) (also, don't forget a hole punch! $1-2) I also use Via Voice Talk program ($50) and talk out my notes (saves loads of time)(took about 2-3 hrs to set up & learn, but well worth the time & $$!). I then print out my cards on either 3x5 or 4x6 cards on the soft colored cards. I love the note rings b/c I can keep track of my cards easier too and then slip in a purse or pocket easily. This has been so helpful to me that I think everyone should try it!

*I file mine 2, just like u do!

Good Luck!

I really cant say. I have always done it. I did it in high school. So I dont know any differant.

What I do know are that flash cards do not help me in any ways.

Hi MJ!

I remember doing that years ago for animal biology, and was thinking I really need to get back to doing it again! It DOES work, and keeps everything together really well! For those of you who are flashcard people - I seriously recommend the hole punches and rings!

(You can buy pre-punched index cards now, but they're just way more $ than I want to spend considering how many index cards I use)

As for colors, I stick with white.. mostly because I draw a lot of diagrams and pictures with color on them. I write all my notecards with bold felt-tipped pens. When I draw things out it makes more sense to me ... and sometimes it's easier to see when i'm looking at them out of the corner of my eye... like in traffic!!

Wow I never had time to re-write notes but I had a hubby, small children, a job.. you know the drill. I was lucky to get it down once on the run..

I hand-write all my notes in class, then retype them all at home. I also type up anything that's been highlighted/noted in the book to be important. That way, when I study - all I have to use is my typed notes (much simpler if you ask me then flipping back and forth between handouts, textbooks, etc). Has worked so far for me...

I agree. Also, there are many times that I am in a rush in the classroom. The chances that I will be able to re read my notes accuratly a month later is very slim.
