I'm sorry you didn't get the externship you wanted but it seems to me that the externships with Children's Hospitals are extremely competitive, so don't take it too badly. A classmate of mine applied to a Children's Hospital externship in my area and I couldn't believe all the things she had to go through just be interviewed.
I think at this point in our academic careers just about any experience is good experience and you have a positive outlook. I think you will enjoy and learn from this other externship too.
Best of luck,

Well, I just received a rejection letter (not even a letter actually, just an e-mail) from the externship program I really! wanted this summer- it was at a big children's hospital with a variety of interesting units and a philosophy of care I like. I am trying to take the view that it just means that God wants me to be at the other externship program I was accepted to; there must be something there He needs me to do, I guess. It is hard to take though! They said they got 65 applications and could only take 12, so I guess that should make me feel better. It's just kind of like, That's all? Not another chance for it? Oh well. Just wanted to vent, that's all! hope I do not put someone else in a sad mood too.
