Personalizing Stethoscopes?

Nursing Students General Students

Here is a question for all of you nursing students and graduate nurses... How did you personalize your stethoscope? I don't want to just write my name on it with permanent marker. I made an ID tag out of beads, the only problem is I can't figure out how to attach it to have it stay put. My steth is a Littmann classic II, and doesn't have the extra piece around the neck that would be useful for wrappin a ID tag around (like this one: http://topbanana.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/littmann-stethoscope-hunter-green.jpg)

Do you find sleeves get in your way at all, or are tough to clean?

I had mine engraved... Its so cute. It has a little peace sign, a heart and a smilie face with my name.... The engraving is small and doesnt stick out at all but I will know its mine... I got a different color than most also. I hate fitting in! haha

I also had mine laser engraved...name tags can be broken off but an engraving is hard to hide.

For a sleeve I just made mine out of satin. Made a much more fitting sleeve compared to the store bought ones, I find it does not irritate my neck as much.

I also got mine engraved, the little tags can be easily removed. I don't use a sleeve.:nurse:

Where have you gotten it engraved? Will any "engraving" store you see in malls, like the kind that make personalized keychains, bracelets, etc engrave on a scope?

I got mine done at medisave.com. I obught it through them but I know you can send one in and they can ingrave it for a small fee....

Sometimes, depends on the style of engraving but usually. There are also engraving places you can find in the phonebook that do things like awards and trophies.

my school is very against the cloth covers for steths---it can harbor bacteria, big time! :) I put a name tag on mine, it's plastic and has a little nurse on it and a blank side to write my name on. I wrote it in BLACK sharpie so it can't rub off :) I've used mine about six months and haven't had it break off yet. I paid about 4 bucks for it, as opposed to 20 or something for engraving. Just a thought :nurse:

The worry is not that the name tag will fall off...the worry is that it will be taken off.

Alcohol swabs make quick work of permanent marker ink. ;)

Unless you often lose things, you don't need to put your name on your stethoscope. Mine is unlabled, its always around my neck, I'm not going to lose it anytime soon.

Mine has my name engraved on it. I got it from medisave.com which does free engraving. It's also a color that most people don't have (lilac)...and I keep it in my pocket (my school doesn't allow us to wear them around our necks -- it actually says in our handbook "Equipment such as stethoscopes and pens are prohibited from being worn dangling from the neck."

I got my stethoscope and engraving from medisave as well. They really do a nice job for free if you buy the stethoscope from them. I like the engraving because like other posters said, it doesn't stick out at all. I got a star and heart on both sides of my name :D i'm sure they do it at the little stands at the malls too.
