I'm also in the market for a PDA. Some students have them but others have balked at the price. Does your school allow them? I've heard that some don't.

One of my instructors had one, and she used to p*ss us all off. We'd be standing there with one little 4 x 6 card shaking in our hand while she drilled us with 50 questions, never looking up from her PDA. I don't know what program she used, but damn, hers really had the info on it!

smartbargains has one on sale today at 63% off which makes it 40.00. i was initially put off by the high prices but i could go that price. i only plan to use it for school, so i dont need a real expensive one. i just dont know what programs are avaiable.i think im going to buy it and if its not that great then im only out 40 bucks

i have one and it's saved my @ss many a time. :chuckle

i have a sony clie and i have downloaded my FA david drug book onto it. soooooo much eaiser than trying to pack a drug book with you. many of the nurses have inquired about it and/or bought one for themselves since they've used/seen mine.

i too bought a cheapie one because i was unsure if i would actually use it. so my advice would be to buy one with at least 64 mb memory. more if you intend to put a lot of different programs on it. and get one with a color screen. much easier on the eyes than black and white.

now that i've gotten used to mine, i fully intend to get a better model. i would love to have a med/surg book on mine but i don't have the room and i have no desire to start buying memory chips to keep up with. i would just as soon go buy a good model.

That PDA on Smartbargains only has 2 mb of memory. That isn't much at all, meaning you won't be able to store much on there.

I agree with Rena....spending more on one that has a lot of memory already built in is the way to go.

I have a Handspring Visor Edge.. It has 8mb on it, with slots to add more memory.. So far it has been more than plenty room.. I have a drug guide, IV drip calculator, EKG interpretor, and MANY other nursey things.... Mine cost 149.00 and I think it was well worth it..

    Hey guys,
I too have asked this question. If you use the search feature for PDA's you should come up with lots of useful info. I will be purchasing one before I start clinicals. Look in the Graduate and Student forums. I think there may be info in both.

I ordered a Dell Axim today. They are brand new on the market. I think their orders are outstripping their supply because I won't get it till around Christmas. At least I'll have it for clinicals in January! I plan to put the Davis drug guide and Taber's on it.

Nurs2b: Where did you get the EKG interpreter? I need all the help I can get.

I use a Sony Clie in my clinicals, have all of the programs Skyscape offers for nurses. Makes it very easy to look up information fast, especially great for the Davis' Drug Guide and IV meds because there are always new drugs being ordered that you didn't prepare for. I have previewed PepidRN, is great also, but you have to subscribe like you would a magazine. The good thing about the programs that are available is that you can do a trial to see if you will like it. I think medscape has programs also for the PDA's. Hope this helps some.
