Nursing magazine subscription

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Hi. I'm currently finishing up my prereq's before starting clinicals in January 2003. I still have Microbiology and Clinical Math to take in the fall. Anywho, I've been thinking about subscribing to a nursing magazine just to familiarize myself, etc. On the other hand, I don't want to start receiving a mag that is over my head and may cause me to freak out!

So, can anyone suggest one that might be good? (A friend of mine gets Nursing 2002 and seems to like it.) Or should I just wait until I get in clinicals and might understand what they're talking about?

Thanks for your advice.

Cindy

Nursing 2002 is, in my opinion, perfect for the student nurse. It covers a lot of medical/surgical questions and is easy to read. It also has some nice sort of human interest stories, not just technical stuff. I always read it in the school library. The articles I remember that were interesting to me were some on renal failure, a few on how to insert an ng tube without causing pt distress, and several on how to start an IV. You will understand everything in Nursing 2002 and probably enjoy it a lot. It definitely won't be over your head.

There is also a smaller newletter called "The American Nursing Student" it is published by SpringNet and contains lots of articles and tidbits that are of interest to students- tips on studying and organizing your time, looking for a first job, writing research papers etc. their web address is:

http://www.springnet.com I don't know how much it costs- because I had a piece published in it last year (Yeah Katie!!!!) so I got a bunch of copies.

I subscribe to Nursing 2002, I have found a lot of helpful articles there. I've read the AJN, I don't like it as well. RN magazine is pretty good, too.

I have both AJN and Nursing 2002. Wouldn't trade either one.... love 'em both!

I subscribe to RN, AJN and Nursing 2002. I like Nursing 2002 the best. RN is good too. AJN is ok although I find it way too techinical even for me, an RN of 5 years. Good luck with school!

I recieve Nursing 2002 and have for quite a few years. I like it, very good articles, updates and tips and tricks. I have found myself keeping the magazines and referring to them later for different things. I also decided to take RN magazine this year, but have found that is is closer to a recruitment magazine. More ads for major hospitals and agencies with a few decent articles slipped in between.

Is it just me or do most of the Nsg Mags have as much advertisement and good stuff. I have subscribed to just about all of them off and on with free months and stuff. I was diappointed with all the advertisements. THey seem to be worse on ads than a normal mag. Have they gotten any better ..I haven't read one in a while

I GET BOTH 2002 AND AJN. HAD A PROBLEM WHEN I SUBSCRIBED--THEY IMMEDIATELY SENT ME THE 3 'FREE' ISSUES THEY PROMISED TWO OF WHICH WERE BACK ISSUES. I WOULD NOT HAVE COMPLAINED BUT THEY COUNTED TOWARD MY YEARS SUBSCRIPTION AND I ALREADY HAD THE ISSUES. I CALLED AND THEY CHANGED MY SUBSCRIPTION DATE IMMEDIATELY. I WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE HAS JUST ACCEPTED THE BACK ISSUES AS PART OF THEIR SUBSCRIPTION?

Gosh. I'm shocked. I figured I'd get maybe one reply to this post, if any!! I knew I'd struck a gold mine with this message board, but I don't think I really realized it until now.

Thanks for all your good advice. I've already subscribed to Nursing 2002 and hope to be enjoying it soon.

You guys are fabulous!

Cindy
