Instructor with a bad attitude!!!

Nursing Students General Students

We have a new nursing instructor that is just terrible. She has a "talk down to the students" attitude and to top it off she is never prepared for class. She reads directly from the book and let me tell you, after 3 hours of this your brain is sound asleep and your body is not far from it.

She is condescending to all of the students to the point where none of us ask any questions and pray that she will let us out early. Some students even left after two hours the other day and said that if that was all she was going to do that they could read the material at home and get just as much out of it.

If a student was late you'd think that the whole world was about to collapse yet, she was 20 minutes late the other day and we didn't even get a "sorry, I'm late"!

Anyone else ever dealt with an instructor like this. She claims that she has taught before but it sure doesn't show!!!

I know what you mean. We have an instructor who isn't bad, exactly, but she stands there at the podium with her cheek resting on her hand looking like she's about to fall asleep. It's really, really hard to keep interested. The reason she stays at the podium is because she hasn't had access to a remote mic yet. We're afraid if she does, she'll just lie on the floor to lecture! :D

Wow, she sounds awful, essarge!

Our theory instructor is *extremely* condescending. We're all getting pretty tired of it; she shows us absolutely no respect and treats us like we're in elementary school. You can't even have a discussion with her; should you try to ask a question, you get, "Raise your hand, dear." And then she won't even call on you.

Anyway, I feel your pain. I hope it gets better for you and all of us.

I know how you feel! Man...go to the Dean or Assistant Dean and COMPLAIN!!! These teachers need to get a clue! We also have end of the semester evalutations, and I always speak my mind and suggest things to make it better. You should totally speak your mind to see if things get better. Good luck!

I understand what everyone is talking about. I had an instructor last year and she would pick on one person until she got them into trouble and then she would find someone else. A couple people ended up getting kicked out of the program and some went to a board to protest. Luckly one of my other instructors decided to take me on in her clinical group and evaluate me before they kicked me out and I didn't have a problem with her. During the summer the instructor that I had problems with got fired. Anyways, just wanted to let you know that sometimes the other instuctors see things like you do. Hang in there and try to do the best you know how. You can do it, you will find a way.

oh yes, we had this one butt-munch (who has since thrown a fit and left because she didn't get her way) who went out of her way to make people feel 1 inch tall. she preyed on the meager students especially. i was never meager, more of a big mouth. my way of holding her at bay was to join the sna, and then later become the secretary of it. its the only time i have ever kissed butt in my life. but in the psychological boot-camp called nursing school, ya do whatcha gotta do. capice? if that means kissing butt or growing coulleons....ya gotta do whatcha gotta do. maybe the witch will leave. perhaps a band of students aught to hold a conference with the dean? this professor can't target a whole class room can she? good luck.

Specializes in NICU.

I had an incredible witch at my nursing school. She was so bad that once in awhile we would talk to one of our earlier-in-school instructors and comment on how we have Mrs. So-and-so. Sometimes they would roll their eyes and nod their agreement with how much we hated her. I called her "Dragon woman" or "Dragon lady". It got lots of laughs.

i completely agree with tattoochick. the dean or asst dean needs to know what is going on!

good luck!

My friend and I ran into this instructor yesterday and she was SUPER NICE!! Made me wonder if someone had said something to her or maybe her "pms period" was over until class Monday afternoon.

Anyway, she even complimented me on getting a 120% on a quiz....I don't know...she reminds me of a cat in waiting for the mouse to mess up. We'll see how she is on Monday...oops I forgot, she's not our instructor for the next three weeks. We change instructors every three weeks. Darn...I'll miss her!! LOL!!;)

I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL........GEESH I HAVE ONE INSTRUCTOR THAT HATES ME FOR NO REASON ( OR AT LEAST I HAVE NEVER GIVEN HER ONE TO).

I failed her class and I have to repeat it again. She is horrible to me she embarrasses me and she talks about me and other students out loud. She laughed when she told me I failed her class...I was determined I would not cry in front of her. I now have to face her again. I have decided to keep a low profile and study very hard and do whatever I have to do to get out of her class as I am to graduate in this coming December. I do not stir up any problems and I let her say whatever she wants I just keep my mouth closed and I do not even look at her. You wonder why people like to make your life miserable when nursing school is already stressful enough.

I have a couple of things to say......#1 YOU paid your tuition to go to that school, which in turn helps pay her salary. #2 You are an adult not a child and do not deserve to be treated that way. #3 DON"T take it. Talk to your dean or whatever the chain of command may be....document instances.......of course this is your choice, but you do not deserve to be treted that way, and I don't want to insult or anything of that matter so don't take this wrong. If you allow her to treat you badly....will you allow your boss to do that when you are working? I can understand just wanting to get done, but I think of all the other students that will have to be subjected to her and how many may never make it because of people like that. I hope it all works out for you.....good luck
