    Lost New Grad Rn

Hello everyone! I am an eight month experienced new grad RN but I am basically lost ........when I say lost I mean....I cant find a home in the nursing field I like......I tried PICU but it was too hard for me.....I worked in NICU and I loved it ....but an issue came up in ...and now I am in occupational medicine and I hate it.....I am looking to go to a general pediatric floor but I think my heart is still in the NICU............I am so confused and tired of jumping around from job to job I feel like a yoyo....I also wanted to try OR nursing but everyone wants someone with experience in which I do not have at the time......................all comments and suggestions are welcome.....thanks in advance.

    blood transfusions in the OR

Thank you spine and nene for repsonding I appreciate that .....I asked because of religious purposes I cannot administer blood transfusions and I just needed to know if that was a requirement in the OR as I heard that the anesthesia provider administered the blood. I am simply tryin to find a home in the nursing field but yet at the same time not violate my religious beliefs which in some cases is kind of hard to do as I do not want to impose upon someone else my beliefs and I dont want to jeapordize anyone's life either when it comes to blood transfusions.....so I tend to work in areas where I dont face that problem......I love the nursing field and I have worked in a few areas, right now I am in occupational medicine it is alright but it is not fullfiling to me. I left the NICU because those lil ones need blood transfusions on a regular basis so I decided to maybe try to work in the intermediate nursery it was cool but some of the nurses ganged up on me because of my belief and made my life miserable in the intermediate nursery so I left and went to occupational medicine. I really loved working with the lil ones and watching them gain weight and progressing to going home it was very fulfilling to me but the atmosphere of working with the other nurses who were against me because of my plight with blood transfusions was awful. I dont mean anyone any harm I just want to be happy in an area of nursing that is fulfilling to me and I can prosper and give my best.

How long have you been in the NICU???

I have now been in the NICU for four months now and counting ......I started on my own with a resource person ....and I have had some terrible days.......lol......I am going to hang in there, the last day I worked I had a decent assignment and I got a lot of parent teaching done.....car seat testing done and I was able to really organize and provide quality care for my lil patients I was in the room with the growers and feeders....I had three babies. I basically need to get myself more organized when I work in the ICU part of the nursery. I am looking forward to having a productive time in the NICU and my goal still remains as stated earlier in this post............

    med. calculations

If I am not mistaken......our institution use saline to flush the UAC and UVC lines because normally we have .9NS or whatever fluid the doctor has ordered running with 1:1 heparin continuously running at 1cc/hr. If we draw blood from either line we basically flush it with saline until the line is cleared and that is it.

    developmental care help!

Yes my unit is actually a Level IV as well we have ECMO and Cardaic babies too....but like prmenrs said it is not really official designation from what I have heard from my co workers on that subject. Regular assignments for us are 3-4 feeders growers 3 oxyhood/cpap and 1-2 vents...

    developmental care help!

Wow I would die if I had to care for five to seven babies that were not feeders growers but five to seven feeder growers is too much ...........the most we do is four feeders and growers...which is a bit heavy I think......but I am a new person in NICU so basically any assignment is a task for me......lol......
