Halleluja, I have been officially accepted into the nursing program at Miami Dade Community College. I start in January. I am soooo excited! We have our student nursing orientation on Tuesday. Any ideas what we'll be doing? You guys will be hearing alot from me in the near future.

Good for you !!!! I imagine during your orientation you will be told what books you will need, what supplies, sometimes they sell a kit, if you need a physical exam before starting, insurance, parking decals, sick policies, just general stuff like that.

WOOOOO HOOOOOO!! Congrats!!!!
Now the bad part... our orientation was a waste of time. It was mandatory. We already had to have our physical etc, and they mailed us the book list.
We watched a movie on standard precautions and another on patient confidentiality. We signed consent forms and forms required by the hospital related to patient confidentiality. We signed a form for required hours in clinical....
The best part was that after several worthless hours the 3rd semester students had a potluck for us.

VSummer,
Not fair! My orientation is in early January, we already have our book list, immunizations, drug screen, etc., but we don't even get a lunch! I wonder what I'll be doing in MY orientation.

Congrats to you! I started this August. ( I am in Live Oak, Fl.)
At our orientation, we had 3 different tests to take. We went over our handbook, policies & procedures, sick days, holidays, got measured for our clinical uniforms...the whole 9 yards...
Best wishes to you holler if I can be of any help.

LOL!! That is why I said it was a waste. We already had all that too! Maybe they will show you some movies like we got (yawn). Too bad your 3rd semester students don't get together and put up some food too. They also gave us some pointers on class. But, like I said, other than those 3rd semester students... what a waste of a day.
