I was thinking about buying my books online from half.com and ebay. I don't know though, what if they get here and have pages torn out or are missing CD's? I absolutely love the CD's that come with books and I don't want to miss out on them. I also thought what if a book never arrives? I know separate people are just mailing out these books and I don't know who I can trust; it just seems too easy to have problems. I can buy all the books from my bookstore, pre-boxed, new, with syllabi, and the correct editions for just under $1000. I totaled up some choices from half.com and came in at 695.00 with two of the books missing because they didn't have them and without one box of drug references that we are supossed to get new. What do you think? has anyone has any problems buying online?

I bought almost all of my books from amazon.com and some of them were new books through the vendors on the book's page. I haven't had any problems. And they have been much cheaper. I got one book for $6.00!!!! and it was supposed to be $34.00! All the books I have ordered were still shrink wrapped. Amazon does free shipping for books over $25.00 and since they're all at least 5 bucks cheaper then my school's store, it was worth it to me. Walmart sells textbooks online too. I haven't bought any there, but I will be asking for gift cards from relatives for X-mas to purchase my optional books. I did buy my Fundamentals book at the school b/c I was afraid I wouldn't be getting the right bundle. I am sure I could have found that online too.

I think it's totally worth it to get them online. I've given the school enough of my money.

I also checked out Walden books in the mall, and the Taber's Medical Encyclopedia was like $7.00 cheaper even there!!! It's crazy how much they want for textbooks!

I used Ebay to get several of my books. Ebay doesn't always have every book you need, but when you do find ones that are required, they are much much cheaper. I've never had any problems with a book missing pages, or being written in, or missing the CDs (they really are a great help). If the auction doesn't have anything regarding the CD listed, just email the seller and ask them. Most sellers are actually very honest and just trying to get rid of their stuff, just like we're gonna be doing when we get done :)

I purchased all of my books thru half.com and was never disappointed. I purchased an edition a year or two older than the current because they're "alot" cheaper and the info is the same. I've never had a torn up book, page missing or missing CD. The seller will mention if the book is already highlighted or if there is any other problem. GO FOR IT !

I went to Overstock.com for my books...BUT BEWARE!!!!! I wanted to buy my Fundamentals of Nsg...and they told me it was in stock and on the way. Three weeks later, having not received the book, I called and they told me "no, we never had that book in stock"...

So I had to go elsewhere and get it. I had previously ordered 3 other books from them without incident. Just be careful and VERIFY as best you can that the book you need is in stock. Overstock had great prices and shipping, though.

I just bought my med/surg book off half.com. It was 114.00 in our bookstore new...I paid 51.00 shipping included and when it got here it was brand new as well with the CD and the wrapping on the book still. You do have to be careful though. I did buy one book off of ebay that they told me was new and it has all the answers already circled in it...but all you have to do is email the seller and ask. Like someone else said..most of them are honest. They just want to sell their books. You can also try barnes and noble. I have some membership there where I get 10% off everything..think the membership cost me 25.00....but then I had them shipped to my house and they were still cheaper than buying them at school... I also agree they get enough of my money at school already.:nurse:

Do the older editions have the same chapter order and information as the newer one. I just don't want to have my professor say to read certain chapters and have the book be totally different.

Hi,

I bought all of my books online. Most of the books I bought directly from the publisher because they had a deal where you would save 10% off of your order if you purchased more than 3 books plus shipping was free. Unfortunately, they no longer have that special running....

I also bought some books from Barnesandnoble.com. They have the best deal for brand new books. If you become a member (25.00 fee) you save 10% on all your purchases for a year. One yearly memebrship fee will be good for 3 semester's worth of books....I also like that you can order special packages with them. For instance, I bought my Med-Surge book in 2 volumes instead of 1 and it came with an interactive cd. Also, depending on which state you live in there is NO SALES TAX...Here in AZ that's about another 8% in savings.....Also shipping is free so you don't have to lug all of those books home from the bookstore!

I also bought 3 books from Overstock.com. I ordered them 4 weeks ago and I still don't have them...One arrived torn and crumpled because they didn't pkg it right and the other two just haven't arrived. Needless to say I'm not too happy with them...

I also checked out ebay and half.com. They do have some good deals, but for the most part, the sellers are asking way too much for shipping. You really need to read the fine print when you buy there...I saw some sellers charging as much as 20.00 for shipping per book! You may get lucky and find a book offered by an individual with reasonable shipping rates but most of the large volume booksellers are overcharging.......

Good luck!

I bought all my books from half.com and was very satisfied w/ the condition and prices. Just make sure you read the description of the condition.

I've always brought my books online, its the only way I could afford them. I mostly buy from bookbyte.com, amazon.com, or half.com. If all else fails and I can't get em, I usually call Books-a-million and they order them for me. I only brought books from my school in my very first quarter as a student there, once I saw their outrageous prices I shopped around after that.

Amazon is my first choice for buying books. They have good prices and package the items well.

Ebay and half.com is a risk.

Good luck

www.phatcampus.com Has really cheap books, the cheapest I've found. They have both new and used books. I just ordered one from there and will let you know if it's worth the cheaper price.
