Different book for AP I and AP II!

I took AP I last spring and we used the Marieb book. It was expensive but they said you would be able to use it for both AP I and AP II. I just took a look at the books required for AP II and they have switched to the Tortora book!

I don't want to have to spend another $100 dollars for an AP book. This is nuts!

Is anyone familar with both books? If so, do you think I could get by with the Marieb book, even though the professor is using the Tortora book? I want to do well in the class and am not sure if the material is the same in both books or if my grade will suffer because I am using the wrong textbook.

Thanks for your help!

Did you try going to the prof and explaining the situation? He/she might be understanding... or you could hope at least?

That really sucks! Hope you can work something out. Textbooks are SO ridiculously expensive.

Man...that does suck. I'd be totally ticked off ...I've got the Marieb book & it was EXPENSIVE. If I had to buy another one... :(

I'm not familiar with both books...only Tortora, but when I took A&P many years ago, I remember the professor saying that any book would be sufficient because anatomy does not change and anything newly discovered in physiology would be discussed. When I took A&P more recently--I saw a few people with older editions, but not totally different books--it worked for them.

Be certain to ask your instructor. You may be able to use the book you already own. Hopefully.

I could have written this post a year ago. Not only did that happen to me- but it was the same authors! I had Marieb for I and Tortora for II. Our instructor said don't worry, I could use Marieb, but I found that there were some differences in terminology and in the illustrations. Because my instructor used the illustration for our lab practicals, I felt lost and disadvantaged!

So, I decided to buy the Tortora book, but instead of buying it new at the bookstore (very expensive$$$) I went to Amazon.com and bought an older edition for $20- and it worked PERFECT!!!! It had all the same pictures and same terminology. The only real difference was the page numbers and I think there were some slight changes in the pictures, but nothing significant!

Good luck and don't fret there are cheaper options! :)

Here's a link to the 9th edition (current edition is 10th.) They're selling used for under $20!

Hi Laura Lou,

My CCAC often has the same problem because our school has 4 different campuses located through out the county but they all use different A&P books. So, a student might go to a different campus for A&P II and have a different book.

Our instructor was really cool about it and said that as long as you understand the "basics" you'll be fine. The terminology, etc. is all the same, it just may be written a little different from book to book.

Just make sure that if you use a different book you copy any diagrams, figures from the correct book in case your instructor uses them in the exam.

Thank you everyone for your great suggestions!

I think I will go ahead and buy the older version of the Tortora book for $20. That combined with my current Marieb book should work. (Thanks Marci3335 for the link!)

The cost of books for some of my classes is almost as much as the tution!
