I am considering taking Anatomy/Phy2 and Microbiology this summer. Do you think these two classes would be too difficult to take together? I just started Anatomy/Phy I and realize it is a handfull to study for. I have a fulltime job and 4 kids. I am trying to satisfy my prereq's by fall to enter a RN program.

Yes. Yes I do. But I also think that anything you want badly enough, you can achieve.
Best of luck to you in your schooling!

LAST SUMMER I DID WHAT YOU ARE WANTING TO DO......I TOOK AP2 AND MICRO IN A 6 WEEK MINI TERM...M-W IWENT 6HRS TO AP2 AND T-TH I WENT 6HRS TO MICRO......I WORK A FT JOB W FAMILY AS WELL, I DID TAKE OFF WORK FOR MOST OF THE TERM, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN UNBEARABLE (THE AMOUNT OF STUDYING) IF I HADN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET OFF WORK. I HAD A FRIEND TAKE MICRO WITH ME, BUT HE TOOK THE FULL LENGTH SUMMER AP2 CLASS.....HE KICKED HIMSELF FOR NOT TAKING AP2 WITH ME FOR I WAS DONE SO MUCH QUICKER THAN HIM, AND HAD A MUCH BETTER INSTRUCTOR.
I DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE, BUT IN MY AREA THERE IS DISTANCE LEARNING AP2 (I DIDN'T TAKE IT BUT KNOW THOSE WHO DID) IT IS COMPUTER BASED AND MUCH EASIER THAN CLASSROOM WORK....
IT IS A REAL LOAD TAKING BOTH THOSE CLASSES, BUT I DID IT AND KNOW OTHERS WHO DID TOO....DON'T LISTEN TO NAYSAYERS ABOUT QUALITY RETENTION, YOU ARE ONLY GONNA REMEMBER SO MUCH OF THAT STUFF WHETHER YOU TAKE IT FULL TERM, SUMMER, WHATEVER...... MOST EVERYONE WILL TELL YOU WHEN YOU GET TO NURSING SCHOOL IT'S TOUGHER.....IT IS...TAKE WHAT YOU CAN NOW, BEFORE ENTERING THE NURSING CURRICULUM...IT WILL MAKE AN EASIER GO FOR YOU
YOU CAN DO IT......IF I DID, ANYONE CAN

I personally would not do it but that is me personally. Only you know yourself well enough to know if you can handle it or not. Some people will say yes it will be ok and others will say think twice before you do it. I took A/P 2 and microbiology in a fall semester together and did not have a full-time job but it was nearly full-time (25 hours a week at the time) and plus a younger daughter and I barely did it and it was a pure headache for me. I wouldn't do it again. I got a C in A/P 2 and a B+ in Micro However, some people are better than others and can easily do it. Like I said it is how you feel and what you think. If you think A/P 1 is a handful then A/P 2 and micro is going to be at LEAST double of what you are having to deal with now. Do what you feel is best for you that is my advice. If you feel like you really can do it then do it.

I really think it is all in how organized and dedicated you can be with your studying. If you stay on top of studying for both classes and do not get behind...it would definitely be doable. But you will have to forget about sleep :)
I think I am too anxious to get the prereq's over with. Maybe I should push back my Nursing classes back 1 yr. That way I could get ALL of the liberal arts requirements done. I don't have the luxury of cutting back work hours right now. I work 12hr shifts 3 days a week now. I am really enjoying school so far. I got a 98% on my first A&P exam!
a very sensible solution...you solved your problem yourself.
if you don't mind waiting, that is the best way.....those who have all prereqs done are way ahead of those of us who don't.

I think that if you got a 98% on your first exam that you won't have any problem completing those two in the summer. I am taking them right now and I feel like I am a pretty good student and I have never gotten that high of a grade. I have gotten 93's but not 98's.
My opinion is that the longer you put it off, you will kick yourself for waiting. The summer goes by so fast and just getting those done will make your life so much easier. Your choice, but I think you can do it!

At our school, we have 2 summer sessions-each 6 weeks long-do you have 2? if you could split them up I'd say go for it, if not, I'd take 1 and wait on the other-so you can enjoy your summer break a little!
